kwento ko lang muna konting backgrounder. while waiting for my wife sa bank kanina, i'm standing outside kasi medyo mahaba pa pila sa loob. merong innova na naka-park sa gilid ng kalsada, then bigla sya nabangga sa likuran ng isang delica van kasi medyo nakausli pagka-park nya. di naman malakas kasi trapik but medyo umabante ng konti yung innova. i noticed na automatic pala yung innova.

too make the long story short, here's my question. paano na mangyayari sa tranny ng innova kung nakalagay sa P (park) yung kambyo nya. di ba masisira yun kung forcibly naabante ang car kahit naka handbrake pa sya. baka mas mainam pa kung naka neutral na lang pag magpa-park ka sa side ng street..

    ano ba talaga mga kuya...

Normally, I'd put it in P, kung naka-park talaga ako.

I think it is, same as neutral.

Naka-disengage nga sya on P pero may cog na lumalabas para mag-lock ang tranny. Kung N pwede pa itulak ang oto. Kung P hinde.

I dunno but to me it feels like naka-kalso sya. So parang may naka-block sa gears or something like that.

so is it correct to say na kapag naka-P ka at natulak forcibly yung car ay madamage yung tranny?

The parking pawl will get damaged.

Worst case scenario, even the E-brakes may need to be adjusted/checked.

when i was still driving my first car which is an A/T, i had this habit of always putting it in P instead of N whenever i had to stop sa stop light o kaya kung babalik din ako agad sa kotse.. i didn't got used to using the hand break before.. buti na lang, the scenario never happened to me.. and currently, M/T na ang gamit namin ni hubby.. ayaw nya kasi ng A/T, mahina daw sa singitan.. madalas, bitin..

Yup, for some ATs, you can't take off the keys when the gear is in neutral. And once you shut off the engine in Park, you can't shift it naman to N, unless you insert the keys.

A friend advised me nga similarly to just shift to N (with handbrake) during a long stoplight instead of to P, in case of even a small bump from behind, to prevent tranny damage.

In cases of low velocity impact, the tires will just skid and it shouldn't affect the mechanicals unless there is already something wrong and weak in there.

But if it was a high velocity impact, better have everything checked just to be sure.

Besides, you'll feel or hear something amiss in the even that you drive it or the next time you put it on park.

    Hope this helps.

pag long stoplight, N + handbrake lang naman ako..

well since there's a possibility na madamage yung a/t tranny pag naka-P at nabangga, sa N + handbrake ko na lang ilagay pag magpark sa gilid ng kalsada..

pag naka N kasi ang a/t it follows the gravity and free wheeling na, so either it goes up or down, mas ok to step on the brake while the gear is on N or lift up the handbreak=)

pag parking naman i usually step on the break then pull the hand break and put the gear to P, upon starting the vehicle, ill step on break first then shift the P to D or R then unhold the hand break=)

Sa stoplight, i shift to N, then footbrake.
