Is it normal, na when shifting to R or D, the car will make a sudden jerking motion or a slight nudge that will shake the car a little? It's not really a knock as in masama yung sound but the car will shake a little. I understand it might be like that when the engine is cold and the revs are at about 1.2krpm, but on normal idling at about 750, theres still a nudging motion. Is this normal? or is there something wrong with the car? and do automatic transmission fluids need to be replaced?

    These shocks are evident on:
    Honda City '98
    Nissan Serena '02

And there are none of these shocks on:
    Honda Crv '02
    Honda Civic FD

It would be worth having a flush,or at least change the filter and fluid, that would do it, if the filter is blocked. Check also your tranny mount, maybe bad.

This is a very subjective term. If it's a simple barely felt nudge, then that's the torque converter engaging. If it's much stronger, there's something wrong. Send it to a reputable mechanic, posting such subjective inquiries will yield different results. I'd rather have you send it to a shop that can properly diagnose it, rather than post a solution here that may not answer your question properly.

Take this with a grain of salt. When the transmission shifts from R to D to N or P, the torque converter engages and disengages depending on the gear you set it to. You should feel it engage, but it should not be a strong jerk. How strong is strong, you ask? That's why I suggest you take it to a reputable shop that can diagnose it properly.

ATF can be drained and refilled (not a flush). Replace the pan filter as well. Check your manual for the proper fluid. Some cars use different types of ATF. High RPM will also result in stronger nudge like when cold.

hmm i guess youre right... have a mechanic check it...

well basta the nudge is strong enough to be felt by the passengers and it moves the car a little... i noticed kasi sa mga honda na the passengers dont feel a thing...

Sir v6, im experiencing the same jerking motion even after the tranny got a fresh ATF.when i leave the house in the morning, it's perfectly normal, i can feel just a little nudge when A/T is shifted to P to R to D. However, the not so normal jeking is felt when the tranny is already warmed up.otherwise, the tranny is perfect.what could be the possible problem? thanks.

I've noticed na when shifting with the hood open, the engine nudges a little along with the jerking motion. Its not an engine support or anything right?
