    Dear Tsikoteers;

Please give me advise about experiencing "shift shock" when you shift from P to D or R. May problema ba ang tranny if may naramdaman ako na shift shock di naman gannon ka lakas pero may ramdam mo.
but during draving wala problema naman sa hatakan ok siya?

    Apprecaited your advise in advance

Try having the auto-tranny fluid drained and replaced. Also have the filter replaced as well. If the shift shock is still there, it might require more expensive repairs to fix.

........Can you please elaborate this "shift shock". If it means it jerks when you shift to D, your engine's RPM might be too high because the engine has not attain its normal operating temperature and the ECU is feeding more gas to the engine. But if the RPM is still high even at normal operating temp of the engine, you may want to adust the air fuel mixture to have the correct RPM, IMO.

Shift shock is the jerky transition when the automatic tranny shifts between gears.

    Ah ok,

    http://tsikot.yehey.com/forums/showthread.php?t=31796

Shift to the "D" position, and try to drive gently, with smooth and gradual acceleration. Until the vehicle reaches a speed of 50-60 km/h or 30-37 mph, you should feel the gears shift at least twice (from first to second, and from second to third). These shifts should be made very smoothly, without jerks or slipping.

By "smooth shift" I mean it should be smooth but you should feel it at the moment the rpm drops down; it feels like the car slows down for a very short instance and then accelerates again. You also can note the transmission shifting moment by the slight change in the engine tone.

But when the transmission is extremely worn it may shift with quite a strong jerk, shudder or a delay (especially from first to second speed).

Driving at a speed of 40-50 km/h or 25-30 mph, if you press down the accelerator pedal for a few seconds, you should feel downshifting to the lower gear, if the automatic transmission works properly.

Taken from the Link, hope this will help.

ako din sir naexperience ko jerk sa shifting A/T due to high rpm, so ang ginawa linis ng MAF, choke, air filter at palit ng intake sensor.. ayos na naman...

pero pag malakas nga yung jerk as in me "thud" sound pag reverse, drive or neutral.. sure me tama na yung gear mo...

Check your CV Joint there about to worn out. Its common to an Automatic tranny specially the age (?) of your car.

It can be one of the culprit. Before I had this shift shock in my car, nawala lang siya ng nagparepair ako ng suspension arm.

Check as well as your suspension kung ok pa.

Please give us the make and model. Shift shock can come from other sources like u-joints/flex disk, bad suspension bushing, tranny/engine supports, dirty/old/burn atf.

ghosthunter = already relplaced the ATF castrol ....nung nadrain naman ok par in iyong previous oil. smell naman niya ok parin even the color ay ayos pa naman.

Afrasay = VTI 2000 model. lahat naman ng shock ay pina check ko na maayos naman lahat even iyong mga bushing still in-tact.
Iyong shift shock nararamdaman when P change to R or D , but gradually iyong jerk I mean ramdam mo pag change.

Sa takbo naman, when initiating the RPM pag nagchange siya smooth naman ok iyong pag change na gear from 20rpm then pag 40RPM ok din naman. nararamdaman ko rin iyong down shift niya pag nagreduce ka ng speed back to lower gear.

Last, those with A/T car, do you also feel this shift shock even little jerk:?
    or movement of gear?

Mayhem = sorry to ask what is MAF, choke saan makikitang location sa engine bay ? at iyong intake sensor ba pwede palitan available b iyon sa market ? Appreciated your feedback.

Also iyong "Thud" sound diba normal naman na may tunog ka marinig whenever changing the shift to R /reversed? even small sound ? Kasi iyon s friend ko same din naririnig din ako whever shifting to r mas model car niya toyota.

thanks sa lahat ng info nyo.
    god bless .....

    thanks you.

avoid increasing the trottle or stomping on the gas while the tranny is is shifting, aside from the shift shock, it will cause damage to the a/t

I have a 7 yr old A/T mitsu adventure. May shift shock siya when I back out of the garage in the morning. Probably because the RPM is still highish in the few minutes after starting the engine. After that when the engine is already warm I can notice the shifting but no big deal. From standstill in P or N, when I shift to D or R, I can feel the clutch engage. Mas malakas ng konti sa R than in D. Ganon naman sya kahit nung bago pa. Super galing naman ng transmission mo kung walang wala kang mararamdaman kahit konti.

Pag nakabitin ako sa [steep] incline pag ma-traffic, I step on the brake with my left foot then with my right foot on the gas, titimplahin ko tapak till I can move up smoothly. It's also my habit to step on the brake momentarily when I shift from N to D as when waiting for the green light to minimize the so-called shift shock

this shock is also evident sa Nissan Serena '02 and Honda City '98...

but sa CRV '02, wala eh... As in i cant tell whether D is engaged na unless i see the RPM needle move a little...

sa Honda CVT walang shift shock or anything. Pero if nakapark ka sa hindi pantay, mararamdaman mo ang konting shift-shock from P to D. Pero pag pantay yung semento sa parking, super smooth wala kang mararamdaman kahit anong shock or jerk.

Even with the 5speed AT ng tropa ko JAZZ 09 kakabili lang last Nov, ganun din, may shiftshock pag hindi pantay ang semento ng parking (palusong at paahon). I think thats normal.

normal yung may konting "shock" when shifting from P to R or D especially kung naka tukod yung transmission lock when you engaged it to P lalo na kung sa incline ka naka park..

i suggest next time you put your transmission to P,.. engage hand brake first then turn off your engine then put the transmission to P
