since sa mga old A/T transmission hindi uso yung may + or - sign na parang manual matic.. kaya O/D ang nakalagay para kahit papaano eh ma control mo "manually" yung transmission... lets say nasa 80kph ka and suddenly you want to overtake.. you turnoff O/D and your transmission will shift to 3rd gear allowing you to overtake... another technique is to simply press the gas pedal more and your transmission will sense that thru its throttle cable and will automatically downshift to the next gear..
it is recommended to have O/D always ON!! kasi sa totoo lang wala naman talaga yan function on normal driving mode.. mgagamit mo yan sa ibang mode like D2 or S sa mode na yan its either you can limit the transmission from shifting up to 2nd gear only or sa ibang cars you can HOLD the transmission sa 2nd gear para mas efficient FC mo during traffic, sa mode like D1 or L (low gear) magagamit mo yan to hold you transmission on 1st gear only..
most A/T with torque converters have more power on modes D2 or S and D1 or L since the tranmission is pumping more ATF to the torque converters to provide more connection between the engine and the transmission
also if you happen to notice most A/T with torque converters upon reaching 80kph at 4th gear with 2000rpm you will notice that there is another "kick" and will lower your rpm to 1,800, this additional kick is provided by the transmission to pump more ATF to the torque converter thus providing more engine traction to the transmission
