Been wanting to know what layout our jeepneys have. Di pa ako nakakapagkalikot ng jeepney... FWD ba sila or RWD?

Jeepneys proliferated, had been modified, extended and up to now mass produced because of simplicity of design. Born in the late '30's out of need by the U.S. Army for a small reconnaissance 4wd in the shortest amount of time at the least cost that is army grade. To be simple in design, it is of front longitudinal engine (north-south) orientation and rear wheel drive with Hotchkiss type suspension. The original steering system was cross steer but later on replaced by parallelogram steering since that is the easily available hand-me-down surplus or used parts.

Jeepneys of the last 30 years have almost none of the original parts of the post-war GP or 'jeep' that GI's used. Most have been customized and built from the ground up and use predominantly pre-used Japanese power plants and drivetrains from Isuzu and Mitsubishi.

The traditional Jeepney is RWD, because the powertrains being used are configured as such.
