when you buy a surplus A/T and if given a chance to open and see the torque converter, how do you spot a good condition one?
my research so far...
1. deformation and fragmentation

actually ang alam ko it's sealed and you need acetelene cutter to break it.

I guess a better way to check is if atf fluid is still inside by removing the nut and checking for metal residue.
Check mo nalang color nung ATF (should be close to pinkish). And sabi nga din ni Afrasay, check for metal residues.
On a flat road and on stand still, accelerate and take note of the shift points. Dapat nothing unusual. Try mo din to floor the pedal, it should shift at red line.
O another thing, there should be no ginding noise when shifting from N to D or to any gear for that matter.
yes, the only least I could check is the ATF pan. peru malayo kasi ang pan sa torque converter. and dark kasi ang ATF, I do see sparkling particles in our current damaged A/T, ewan ko lang kung metals na ba yun, plus the magnet is crushed to bits when it was opened.
looks like there's no any other way besides that...![]()
