Correct way to stop using M/T?

Guys,- I just want to share my style, without claiming that this is the best nor the right thing to do.

When stopping, I lift my foot from the gas pedal and as appropriate step on the brake pedal (right foot) without changing gear.

When the vehicle is about to stop, I step on the clutch(left foot), put the gear to neutral and remove my foot from the clutch.

Most economical way: Shift to neutral and brake gently.
Best way: Read the second paragraph of the first post.
Racer way: Heel-toe method and downshift through the gears. It's less efficient this way but some findings point out that it can reduce clutch wear compared to engine braking without heel-toe.

i neutral about 200-300 meters and freewheel if im at about 100kph...of course, prior to that a little scrubbing of speed using the brakes.

whatever the tranny is composed of... Doesn't literally wear the tranny but does contribute to wearness

ah ok, from my understanding even if the tranny is in neutral the gears inside are still turning.

eto naman braking style ko...

a. pag ang speed is > 60 kph but <= 100 kph
- release muna ng gas pedal, press on brake, pag 40 kph na ang takbo, apak na sa clutch then neutral

b. pag ang speed is <= 60 kph
- minsan same sa letter A, minsan neutral na tapos apak sa brake

c. pag ang speed is > 100 kph
downshift from 5th to 4th, then 3rd ... then pag nasa 60 kph na, same style na as letter B

Generally, ganito din ginagawa ko. Works for me.

you go from 2nd to 1st? I only do that when coming to a stop sign...

Ako kasi I use the nakaneutral ako pag maluwag ang road at pag hindi downhill. Different style's din ginagamit ko depende sa situations. I tried searching the web. M<arami din akong nakitang mga styles.

Basically you just want to balance between engine wear due to engine braking and brake wear due to braking.

Downshift ka then press on the gas, especially if you're cruising on 5th gear (overdrive). Once you've cleared the obstacle, upshift ka na ulit.

If you are not using compression braking and braking from speed, just step on the brakes.

When the engine is about to lug or bog, step on the clutch. The procedure in the first post is correct.

Regarding the risk of going into neutral, for some drivers, there are certain situations where you will need to power out and away from danger in addition to braking, something that you won't be able to do if you're not in gear.

same here.. just downshift 1 to 2 gears depending on ur speed then upshift when cleared. higher rpm means more acceleration (but dont meet your redline ofcourse) so you can pass more quickly.

Stepping on the clutch before braking from a high speed is apparently wrong too ( i forgot why, i was just told so).

err..is it because instead of stopping mas lalao kang bibilis?


Same as most guys here...I step on brakes first then with right timing clutch then shift to neutral then handbrake. tapos.

Pards, usually ang ginagawa ko when breaking to a full stop na naka 5th gear eh break lang ako and then pag nasa 10 going 5 then 0 km/hr na tsaka ko na lang neuneutral. Tama naman iyon diba? tama lang na magbreak habang naka gear at hindi na kailangan magshift down? Ang hindi tama ay iyong mag gagas ka na sobrang baba ng speed mo at naka high gear ka. Anybody peeps?

i agree.. wag ka tatapak sa accelerator when you're too slow at nasa high gear ka pa, nakakasira ng timing and totope makina. when i'm braking, lets say 120km/h then i have to stop the car, i step on the brakes then downshift from 5th, 4th, 3rd and 2nd gear while my right foot still stepping the brake gently.. more stopping power you'll get when braking and downshifting at the same time... try mo.
