Or kailangan as my speed slows down ganun din dapat ang pag shift down ng gears ko? Tama ba iyon or makakasira sa sasakyan?

tama as long as walang nginig. nginig is a clear sign of mishandling.

frequent vibrations could make premature ring wear. neutral cruising

really saves you on fuel but not on brakes.

IMHO the best way to save gas is just to be gentle on the gas pedal and on the brakes... I have a gas mileage reader on my dash that constantly moves the needle and it's saying I don't consume gas whenever I put it in neutral or whenever I let off the gas pedal... To wait for the moment 'til the car is about to stop before shifting from 5th to neutral doesn't help at all... Apparently, I feel that it's safer for my car whenever I just shift from any gear to neutral before gently stepping on the brakes... I also don't use the tranny to slow down my car unless I'm doing some spirited driving... I actually did all the experimentation of how to use the gas, brakes, and tranny in order to actually find out what the best way is to consume less gas, it turns out that there isn't much difference between any of them (20.9 mpg, 21.4 mpg, 21.9 mpg - same results came up numerous times). Just be gentle on the brakes and on the gas when accelerating ~ I found that to be the best way to save gas...

tama din yun, for me ha, kung nasa 5ft gear ka at range of 80km/h down to 70,60km/h try to shift to lower gear, from 5ft gear to 4rt, 3rd, 2nd, kung 5ft gear shift ka to neutral, masyadong maluwag or open ang gear. lalo na mabilis. try mo nakakatulong din, parang engine break ba. ask natin ibang guru's for more information.

Not saying that you're completely wrong, but IMHO I'd rather use the brakes than the tranny to slow down... For me, kahit na mag-shift ka ng gear perfectly, trany still gets as worn out as by how much/often you use it, and in a long run it makes sense... Brakes are cheaper than a tranny...

Anybody peeps?

If you are not using compression braking and braking from speed, just step on the brakes.

When the engine is about to lug or bog, step on the clutch. The procedure in the first post is correct.

I guess it all comes down to what the driver is used to... kung sanay ka mag-brake while on 5th, I doubt this thread can make you change that habit... But really, there isn't much that's worth to count as a difference between ways of how you manage to slow down... There is no such right, and there is no such wrong way of doint it, unless you do some sort of damage or premature wear on other part components...

Gotta have a light foot on the gas so you can be easy on the brakes. I normally downshift rather than keeping the tranny on Neutral. I feel more in control of the vehicle and safer too. But, that's just me.
