hi gurus! last saturday, i tried parking sa basement ng isang mall sa amin, for the first time. sobrang steep. my entrance went smooth kahit na para akong nakasakay sa roller coaster. anyway, nung palabas na ako, nakita ko na ganun din pala ka-steep ung ramp pataas. being a newbie driver, i opted to shift to 2nd gear thinking mas malakas ito. ayun, hindi ako umabot sa taas. biglang tumirik yung makina just before i reached the top. nag panic ako, tried the brakes, ayaw naglock yata, sobrang tigas. tried the handbreak, ayaw din kumagat. so i went rolling downwards. buti na lang wala akong kasunod. mas lalo akong natakot kasi ayaw magstart for 2 tries. it went off the 3rd time though, whew! one of the parking staff advised me to use 1st gear and indeed, nakarating din ako sa taas. i just would like to know what may have caused the locking of the brakes? and possible negative effects nung nangyari sa auto. TIA!

Hindi nag-lock ang brakes. Nawalan lang siya ng vacuum kasi patay ang makina, since malamang you were pumping the pedal.

namatayan ka ng makina, so in effect little to no brakes at all. possible effects? kawawa naman yung nasa likod mo kung may kasunod ka.

Have your handbrake checked bro.,- hindi siya dapat mag-malfunction.... Siya ang iyong "last line of defense" sa mga ganyang sitwasyon....

Your car's brakes are partly boosted by the engine. If the engine stalls, the brakes will dramatically feel more difficult to depress but they will still operate, just stomp on the brake pedal with more force.

If your parking brake (hand brake) is weak, you might want to have it checked and adjusted. It should be able to hold your car from rolling.

Going up steep inclines from a slow speed usually require you to shift to 1st gear unless your car has a really big hunky engine where it will still crawl up any hill in 2nd gear.

Kung loaded at steep ang daan, baka di kayanin ng hand brake to hold the car in place.

Pag nasa first na tapos naghihina pa rin, turn off the aircon.

When it comes to steep climbs (at hauling), the lakas that ur looking for eh torque. The lower the gear, the higher the torque.

ayos may nalaman na naman ako... teka, panu naman kapag ang haba nung paakyat tapos hindi pa ko nakakarating sa taas eh umiiyak na yung makina sa 1st gear dahil mataas na rpm? anu maganda gawin? shift to 2nd gear or pababain ko rpm by momentarilly not pressing the gas?

Don't shift. Just maintain your speed without accelerating so your engine will not outrun your low gear.

People should really go back to driving school if they don't know these basic driving skills.

The course they offer is too short. Better hire somebody to accompany u while u drive for a month.

Also, the more varied the driving condition you experince earlier, the faster youll learn. Tapos yang mga incline at twist and turns.

Sounds like the Welcome Rotonda, Commonwealth Ave and the roads up and down Rizal and Antipolo.
