COVID has revealed the answer - obviously private cars.

The past few days I've been driving, traffic is roughly as bad as when it was pre-ECQ. And that's with zero public transpo.

Kesyo wala daw disiplina, etc etc. It's clear as day that cars take up most of our roads even with an average of just 1-2 people per car.

I hope every single car owner in Metro Manila takes a hard look in the mirror and admits that WE ARE PART OF THE PROBLEM.

Does it mean we would all give up our cars? Of course not. But next time any of us gets stuck in traffic, suck it up because you contribute to the problem too.

Yes we need the government to provide better public transpo systems. So blame them and not bus drivers forced to live cutthroat lives on the road because of the antiquated boundary system.

It's as bad? Baka dahil walang coding?

Bakit pre-civid pag meron strike public vehicles nawawala traffic?

    Jeeps ba or buses?

1-2 inner bus lanes kasi unusable sa mga private motorist, kaya we experience pre-ecq traffic.
And yet ang baba naman ng utilization ng mga new bus lanes na ito.

Permanent set-up naraw yan doc, then may 1.5 m pa na bike lane sa right side.
Ang current traffic sa EDSA will not get any better.

inton was interviewed the other night over the radio.
    sabi niya,
"that plan to move the bus lanes to the innermost lane, was already suggested in the past. it was dis-approved, back then. they are now pursuing it, under the guise of covid."
    sour grapes?
personally, i do not see the reason how moving it to the innermost lane, will possibly help traffic or our war against covid.

Not even referring to EDSA. I avoid it because of the birth pains of the bus lanes. But C5, White Plains, Marcos Highway - all these roads remain congested even without public vehicles.

And to think many offices are still WFH and most entertainment destinations (i.e. malls) aren't operating at full capacity.

When there are strikes, or when there are no classes, traffic is marginally lighter for sure, but that's just like going from 100% traffic to 90% traffic.

Try taking out all private cars and having all the jeeps and buses still ply the road, you'd get much, much less traffic.

Simple lang naman eh - a car that takes 10 sqm and only has 1-2 passengers will cause more traffic and ferry less people than a bus that takes 30 sqm but has 60 passengers (or even just 30 at half capacity).

Makatulong kaunti kung city car, or carpool.

Maganda din ang bike lane initiative

During the MECQ there was a famous local speed shop who posted on their FB page that the "jeepneys are the cause of the traffic". I think they took it down already hehe.

But Taft Ave. traffic is light, no buses and jeepneys.

I’m not saying I’m glad that theres no PUVs, kasi kawawa yun commuters, pero ang luwag talaga ng Taft.

The portion infront of Rizal Park, corner of P.Gil and near Quirino, these are places where jeepneys and buses usually clogged it up.

Those passing through EDSA going south will notice most traffic is due to concrete barriers which narrowed the lanes... and people slowing to merge at the entrance to the cubao underpass.

    Back to the thread traffic.

IMO, its a combination of both

Using my experience this long weekend when I went to MOA on a scooter.
Angkas lang sana sa akin wife ko, pero my daughter decided to join kaya nag-car sila.

while on my scooter. jeeps and buses loading sa intersections. without them stopping, libre sana yung lahat to move forward.
why don't we have proper bus/jeep/taxi stops? and kahit meron, why are they allowed to stop anywhere/anytime?

private vehicles -> they are the reason kung bakit traffic sa MOA!
sa loob ng parking ng Ikea, may traffic! bec car owners decided to leave their cars blocking the loading bay kasi nagbayad sila ng parking fee!
mahirap ba talaga maglakad to pay for parking? di naman mainit sa loob!

even with proper terminals most PUV thou not all tend to drop of their passengers on the side of the street causing bottleneck/traffic, its faster daw plus they usually have give a tong to those traffic enforcers/police to look the other way for their minor infractions. To them this minor infarction tend to net them a higher passenger turnover thus higher pay in the end of the day.

there was a time (martial law period), when loading and unloading of passengers were allowed only at designated (marked!) areas.
    i miss those days.

Saan ba daanan traffic ngayon? EDSA? How about yun mga secondary roads ngayon wala ng mga jeep saka ibang bus?
