someone on caranddriver.com gave an analysis :lol:
quoted from Waldorf on the caranddriver.com forums:
>> I had the same reaction. At first, I thought he was trying a 180 -- or some other cool drifting move -- and the rear wheels didn't break loose, so he was thrown off the road. But it doesn't look like he made any steering input whatsoever. It's like he had no idea that such a thing as "oversteer" was even possible. He didn't seem to try to correct the slide. This boggles my mind -- isn't it entirely instinctive to countersteer when the back comes around? At least if he'd overcorrected and gone off the other side of the road, you could at least say "rookie mistake". But he didn't seem to make any attempt to do anything, except brake too lightly and too late.
The sequence of events as I saw it:
-- he gets a good launch, and accelerates fairly hard to high rpm in 1st gear;
-- he releases the throttle and the engine braking causes the back to slide;
-- at first, he does nothing;
-- when the car has not only yawed, but actually changed direction, he begins to comprehend that something bad is happening;
-- he presses the brake pedal, but not very firmly;
-- he pees his pants;
-- he bounces across the grass, into another kid's Jetta;
-- he comes to the realisation that none of the girls he had been trying to impress will ever sleep with him;
-- he further comes to the realisation that his parents will sell his MR2, and he'll be driving his Mom's Volare until he's 28. <<
