Typically, a person who has a firearm gets a license to posess such firearm. This license to possess is valid only on the owners legal residence - or the one specified on the firearm license. The car is not an extension of the residence. Bringing your firearm inside your car will expose you to possible violation.
When one has to transport a firearm (such as when goin to the range or the gunstore for repair), one has to get a Permit to Transport from the PNP. With the PTT, one can legally put the firearm in own's vehicle but out of sight. The PTT is specific on the routem, period and destination.
When one wants to carry a firearm, one has to get a Permit to Carry Firearm outside of residence.
I think the answer is no.
You need a PTC.
You can transport an unloaded gun to and from the gun club/shooting range, I think.
Let's wait for the gun club guys.
sabi sa Glock forum, para ka na din may permit to carry kung yun area between yun gun club/shooting range mo and yun house mo, eh yun area kung saan ka nag-work or naglalagi hehehe
Why would anyone ever need to bring a firearm in the car if he's not going to a shooting range....Permit To Transport usually comes with a firearms license and a gun club membership. I'm just not sure if PTC can be issued again to civilians. You can ask your gun retailer where you got the license for you gun if you can apply for a PTC now.
Teka, why would anyone need to carry a gun? Is your life in a real danger?
In reality, most people doesn't need a PTC. Hirap yata pag may nakakabit lagin na holster na may lamang handgun sa tagiliran mo habang namamasyal sa mall, papasok sa office or bibili sa grocery.
go get a PTC or suffer the consequences if you get caught.
OT:
guys,
how much is a bnew Colt Defender nowadays? how much would you buy a very slightly used one (less than 200rds fired) for?

you need a ptc. and even with a ptc you will need to keep the gun concealed, you can not bring it within any public place (mall, supermarket, bars, not even luneta park), and you can not draw your gun unless in self defense.
the only defense you will have if the police catch you having a firearm in a vehicle without a ptc is illegal search without a warrant. this is a weak defense since the police can always say they made a casual/occular search outside the vehicle and noticed your gun, in which case they can pressume a crime is being committed and therefore is authorised by law to do a warrantless search.
nakita ko nga post mo dati. at may mga sumagot na: no, hindi extension ng bahay ang car mo. Bogeyman has quoted a republic act defining the term 'residence'.Originally Posted by kools
kung 'in danger' ang buhay mo, you can request for a PTC, with all the document/affidavit supporting your request. pag na-grant naman yong PTC request mo, may mga rules pa rin as stated sa previous posts.
sa PTT naman, 3 months lang yata validity nyan(renewable) at may defined na route from your residence to 3 or 4 shooting ranges. at di ka pwede ma-divert ng route greater than 1 km yata. tapos dapat magkahiwalay pa rin ang lalagyan ng ammunition mo at nung gun itself-globe compartment & trunk respectively.
so kung wala ka PTC or PTT, may violation ka nga. i'm not sure pero i think that falls under illegal possesion of firearms pa rin(?). 20 years yata in prison, like robin padilla. pero don't worry, di mo naman yata bubunuin yong 20 years, kasi may parole naman. that is, kung hindi ka mapagkamalang carnapper ng TMG at ratratin ka na lang.. hehe. joke.
I concur with the other members who have said that a vehicle is NOT an extension of one's residence.
If you need to bring your gun to the range, join a gun club and get a permit to transport (PTT). Or, if you feel that your life is in danger, apply for a permit to carry (PTC). Last I heard, they cost from P9,000 to P11,000 depending on the gun store that you get it from.
If you have a gun with you and you have to use it in a self-defense situation, then it better be a legally carried gun or else you'll still end up in trouble for illegal transport of firearms.
BTW, can some of our lawyer members share with us the penalty for this violation (how many years in prison, monetary fine, etc.)?
6 years ang illegal possesion of firearms, law ammending the penalty was passed during the time of ramos. kaya nga laking pasalamat ni binoy kay tabako at yung 20 years sentence nya e shortened to 6 years na lang and he was let out after serving 6 years.
or if you have military connections, you can obtain a mission order from the afp. then you can bring it anywhere among the regions designated in your MO. mine is permitted in 3 regions. hassle lang kelangan renew every 3 months.

pero di ba dapat pag MO e military reservist or nbi civilian agent lang? afaik hahanapan ka din ng military ID or nbi ID para i-honor ang MO.
bale ang dadalhin mo parati is the MO itself and an identification paper given by afp to properly identify you as a civilian agent. MO is renewed every 3 months, the identification paper is yearly.
sus hirap din pala... kahit may license firearm ka eh sa bahay lang pala at kaylanga parin ng PTC/PTT just to bring your firearm... di ba pwede na yong license mo eh cover niya inside your car at wag nalang sa loob ng bahay??? hehehe sa panahon kasi ngayon mas "in danger" ang buhay natin sa labas kaysa sa loob ng bahay...

Salamat!

bro, di talaga pwede. mukhang mahigpit yata pangangailangan mo magdala bro. pero kung normal protection lang from day to day criminals like carnappers, at wala ka naman talagang kaaway na nagbanta na sayo na papatayin ka, i don't think it's worth it na magdala ka ng baril. pera at sasakyan lang usually na kinukuha ngayon. you'll probably be endangering your family more pag may baril ka at pumalag ka pa. aside from the danger sayo at sa pamilya mo, nandyan pa yong legalities.Originally Posted by kools
sabi ko nga, kung may mga totoong pagbabanta sa buhay mo na kaya mo patunayan, then pwede ka mag-apply ng PTC.
