Coming soon? Cars with only a driver may be banned on EDSA

MANILA - Cars with only a driver may not be allowed to ply EDSA, should a proposal for car pooling be approved by next year.

In a meeting with the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) Tuesday, 17 mayors of Metro Manila agreed to study all the proposals being made by all sectors to reduce EDSA traffic but car pooling appeared to be the best option so far.

If there are three passengers in a car, the number coding is lifted, and the vehicle can pass EDSA at any time and at any day.

If there are only two passengers, the vehicle is subject to the existing coding system.

But if you are driving the car without any passenger, you are banned from passing EDSA at all times.

MMDA Chairman Danny Lim said a study will still be made on the feasibility of the scheme.

Even the proposal to have a coding by vehicle brand was presented to him.

But the MMDA reiterated that the Metro Manila Council has not trashed the two-day coding and the one way all the way EDSA schemes.

Congressman Danilo Suarez earlier proposed for a two-day coding in EDSA, but metro mayors rejected the plan outright.

Quezon City Mayor Herbert Bautista, however, called on mayors not to junk the idea immediately, saying the suggestion should first be put to test for feasibility and effectivity.

The same goes for the suggestion to make the whole stretch of EDSA one-way, southbound, with C5 and Roxas Boulevard one-way, northbound.

After a simulation of these two proposed traffic schemes to improve traffic, a scientific study will be done to gather data on the effectivity of the plans before the mayors could decide as a council.

Coding by brand? Lugi mga Toyota.

Another bandaid solution. Andaming alternate route aside from edsa/c5. Yun lang ginagawang parking. Andaming batas na naipasa, di naman pinapatupad.

Enforcement lang naman to e. If only the MMDA would implement the law at manghuli ng nagvaviolate ng traffic rules (lalo na PUVS) kahit papano aayos ang daloy ng traffic.

Agree. Ang dami na traffic laws/policies. Dagdag nanaman yan. Ano kwenta ng lahat na yan kung wala naman enforcement.

smarter people would get uber/grab instead of hiring an anonymous possibly-a-crook of a passenger
