Pribadong sasakyan, uukitan ng plate numbers
    (Pilipino Star Ngayon Rose Tamayo-Tesoro)
    Tuesday, July 17, 2007

well... the etching of plates to the windows of a vehicle is an old practice already of a few security-conscious vehicle owners.

Window etching, I might be okay with it. Car body etching, no way. However, automobile windshields are fairly "cheap" these days, around 5-6K (replacement part). What then would prevent criminal elements from just buying a replacement windshield/mirror or to just look for other sneaky ways to replace the mirror/windshield of a carnapped vehicle?

Just a thought: scenario-> what if after 2010, the opposition takes the reins of the government. Bayani Fernando gets sacked and most of his "laws"/decrees/projects gets reveresed. If this happens - and assuming that this plate etching proposal is in place - I bet a lot of vehicle owners would be cussing and fuming mad.

if ever napa-implement to, for sure after a month or so meron nang counter-measures mga bad guys jan.

Pero at least it's a step to lessen the crime rate in the metropolis.

    It's a step, not a solution.

Not a good idea. Carnappers can easily roll down the windows to hide the etched plate number. And they can also put a sticker of another plate number on top of the 'etched' or painted plate number on the body.

Well at least nobody can say that the MMDA and Bayani Fernando are not thinking of ways to help us keep our rides safe from criminals. Thing is, sometimes they think of outlandish ideas. But sometimes outlandish ideas work.

Di ba the VIN would only work if computerized and naka-connect ang pulis na huhuli sa TMG-LTO files.

Seriously, you can embed a rice-grain-sized RFID somewhere in the vehicle and you can monitor all vehicles passing through a certain point in the road through an RFID scanner.

Apprehend all vehicles without the said RFID tag (which is very cheap BTW), then hook the vehicle info via this RFID system to the LTO's records for easy verification.

    +1

    agree with RFID tag.

i wonder gaano kalaki ang iniisip ng MMDA na etching sa car body. its not a good time to buy a new car. ang sakit sa dibdib kapag nakitang inuukitan ang sasakyang kakalabas pa lang sa casa. tapos, paano kapag na-"wrong spelling" ang nag-uukit? ayos

this is much better approach. kahit na siguro sa mga mc pwede rin to. afaik feasible to since lto ay computerized na. kelangan na lang siguro eh coordination ng different agencies
