(UPDATE) Four killed, 2 hurt in NLEX mishap

Four people died while two others were hurt after their Toyota van lost control and fell into a canal along the North Luzon Expressway (NLEX) in Mexico, Pampanga Sunday afternoon.

Motorists who witnessed the accident said the vehicle's driver lost control after one of the wheels of the van with plate number RSS 430 burst around 3:30 p.m., ABS-CBN News correspondent Ces Drilon reported.

The van then flipped over several times before it plunged into a grassy portion of the roadside. All of the casualties were thrown out of the van.

Rescuers rushed two of the van’s passengers to a hospital for treatment.

One of them died while being undergoing treatment.

A five-year-old child who survived the crash was still in shock after the incident.

The victims were unidentified as of posting time.

Members of the NLEX’s Motorists' Assistance Division presumed that the victims did not put their seatbelts on while riding the vehicle. With a report from dzMM

Saw this in the news as well. The Toyota Van did not seem to be any Toyota van locally sold. It's possible it's a subic/converted from rhd imported van, also from the plate # starting with R?

Yup it looks like a hiace/liteace na JDM model... tsk at that area maluwag na ang daan, this is also near the area where the radar spotter position themselves to catch fast drivers.

Who knows how long naka-stock ung mga sasakyan na yan sa dealers' yards sa Japan. Many of them could be flat for a long time tapos re-inflated lang when sold for export.

Then pag dating dito sa Pinas, ma-stock din sa yard ng mga Subic importers.

By the time the units end up in the hands of end-users, how old would those tires be? How long havent those tires been driven long distances?

Tapos ida-drive ng mga end-users sa highway at high speed?

Meron Japan surplus service vehicles dito sa company. We experienced the tire tread just peel off. Para di na maulit, we replaced all the tires.

Alam ko pag matagal hindi gagalaw ang auto, dapat i-max inflate ang gulong nito para hindi umoblong ang steel belts. Kung matagal naka park AT flat pa ... grabe na yun.

Dami nga accident sa NLEX recently. Kagabi lang, 4 yung nadaanan ko, 3 dun mga truck pa. Seems walang nagme menor sa light drizzle eh minsan mas madulas pa yun sa moderate rain!
