No Cellphone While Driving Law starts on May 18

Receiving and making calls bawal din. What the ****? Don't they know vehicles now are equipped with handsfree connectivity and driver can make calls without touching the phone.

Hindi naman nila makikita pag naka hands free diba?

If this was implemented a month ago I would be really pissed. But I rarely make or receive calls now while driving so I'm not affected anymore

Excerpt from IRR Implementing Rules & Regulations of RA 10913 -Penalizing Distracted Driving

Section 5. Extent of Coverage

"a. The operation of a mobile communications device is not considered to be distracted driving if done using the aid of a hand-free function or similar device such as, but not limited_ to, a speaker phone, earphones and microphones or other similar devices which allow a person to make and receive calls without having to hold the mobile communications device: Provided, That the placement of the mobile communications device or the hands-free device does not interfere with the line of sight of the driver."

the ideal placement of GPS devices (offline or dynamic like waze and Google Maps) is really the windshield or the dash. It needs to be near the line of sight so the one driving can glance at it (from time to time) without taking his eyes off the road. IMHO, it's safer that way.

Law's intention is good but IRR is ridiculous. We should pass a law na retirement age ng mga members ng Congress. These dinosaurs are so out of touch that they can't pass effective law in tune with current situation.

Grab and uber drivers will be directly affected by this law. Imagine, if a driver picks up a passenger, he or she must turn off his engine first to set his waze or whatever app he's using to get directions then starts his car b4 he can go. And normally, an uber or grab driver picks its passenger on a busy street or road..
