Been passing NLEX going to and from Baguio practically every weekend of for the past 6 weeks. Twice on my bike and Twice in my station wagon. On both I run over 150 kph on empty sections and have not been arrested/warned/stopped/held.
The funniest thing I've seen is AUVs going 140+ kph on the NLEX. I've actually done it in one, and it felt as safe as 80 kph on SLEX.
Not that I condone OVERspeeding, but I'm a firm believer that the "safe" speed is dependent on conditions and is not merely a flat, uniform figure... 140 kph on the SLEX or 100 kph on EDSA is vastly more dangerous than 200 kph on the NLEX.
Ang pagbalik ng comeback...
problem is, can they stop in time with those "de bomba" brakes? Are those PUJs or owner type jeeps?Originally Posted by mazdamazda
Yes they can stop if their brake system is in good condition. With the "de bomba brake (usually may problema sa master)" they can stop also in time kapag may alalay at maganda ang distansya.Originally Posted by ILuvDetailing
by the way...
there is no min & max speed limit sign posted in the open-system portion of the NLEX (Balintawak to Bocaue)
the only portion where a max speed sign is posted is when entering exit tollways (which is 40kph) and when merging to the 4-lane highway from the tollbooth (80kph).
which makes our little argument moot & academic. hehe.

Takot!, lahat sumusunod.
Here's a sample of one that I got; I reduced its size for faster downloading:Originally Posted by muffer

Advertisement pala ito eh in the guise of reminders. Pero okay na rin kaysa wala.Originally Posted by mikey177

napansin ko rin... may max speed limit when approaching bridges (or parts na walang shoulder)... which is 80kph.
Kapag going to Bulacan ako, I go as much as 140kph. Going back to Manila, 100kph to 120kph. May nahuli na ba?
exit / entry ramps have 40 KPH max limit :-) ... pero tama si bosing mazda, wala nga ako napapansin na max (hmmm double check ko sa Saturday ulit)Originally Posted by mazdamazda
ayos lang ang 100kph, for me ha?...
naka survive nga ako sa 80kph from manila to pampanga e.
pag nagbright or bumisina ka galit pa sayo.
well... maybe its just me, or it's just a maybe.
the 55 mph (in the US) and 85 kph (here) general speed limit here was brought about by the oil crisis in the 1970s. with the spiraling cost of oil at the time, our legislators (then Batansang Pambansa) enacted BP No. 73 "AN ACT TO FURTHER PROMOTE ENERGY CONSERVATION AND FOR OTHER PURPOSES". Section 9 of which reads (pertinent phrase in bold) :
The MoT, at the time, simply copied over the US system converted to kph and rounded off the the nearest 5 which gives us our 85 kph national speed limit.Originally Posted by Batas Pambansa Blg. 73
I think that this section of the law has not been repealed (we need another law to specifically state the repeal) and law enforcers can still use this against us if they were smart enough.
It's interesting that the section on banning of importation of large displacement and high weight vehicles was repealed specifically by Cory Aquino during her time but not the rest of it.
Of course, this also means that only the MoT (or, now, DoTC) can specify speed limits. This leads to the question as to the validity of the speed limits on the highways set by the PNCC and MNTC. I once used this argument when I was stopped for overspeeding in SLEX. I showed the booth person my copy of BP 73 and asked them to produce a copy of a law (be it RA, BP, EO or whatever that shows that they have authority to do so.) with a follow up statement that if they hold me further without cause they can be liable under law. So far, reaction has been a bit of head scratching and them letting me go.
The last time I used NLEX, they were putting signs as to which lane a particular vehicle must pass. The problem is - will it be implemented and followed by undisciplined drivers?
pelo.. pagdating sa Bocawe nasa 90 to 100kph sila.. medyo mabadal..![]()
to fellow tsikoteers travelling farther north, speed traps are located between the two bridges of San Fernando Exit and Angeles Exit , i think after lakeshore there is always a parked white pick-up on top of, one of this bridges , a friend of mine was caught by the camera of this pick-up , and was stopped at the angeles toll exit, his drivers license was confiscated, and he had to get it in LTO main office in QC, random apprehensions lang naman ito, just be alert of this MNTC pick-up lurking on top of this bridges.
