It's easier to speed along the SCTEX than NLEX because the SCTEX has less places for the patrol vehicles to hide.

On the SCTEX, when approaching a blind rise in the road, slow down to almost legal speeds and when you reach the top, scan the road ahead of ANY white AUV/Pickup parked on the side of the road. If you don't spot any, you can increase your speed to your heart's content until the next blind rise in the road.

Typically radar guns are used on straight portions of road, so on long curves the chances are very small you will get "tagged" there.

Tip sa akin ng 1 tropa, bumontot daw sa humahataw na nauuna sa iyo. I think safe sa huli, but unsafe for driving.

True. The first car will be the one caught and the one behind will get away. But if you are following the first car close enough not to get caught by the radar gun, it is unsafe for you and for the car ahead of you. It won't be fun because you'll be extremely nervous and on edge all the time.

You can run up to 120 kph in SCTEX, yan ang advise sa akin nung nakahuli. If you exceed, I don't know, kasi mula ng mahuli ako, I never exceed to 120 kph. sa NLEX, I think it is also applied, basta pagdating ko sa may sign ng "RADAR MONITOR" medyo slow down ng konti para hindi halata ng sumusunod sa akin...

Used NLEX and SCTEX last December when I went up to Baguio, I just maintained my speed at 100km/hr and let my son seated at the back to gently tap my shoulders when I am over. Just be safe when driving there although the wide and open hi-way is so tempting to stretch your ride's capabilities.

    ^ Very true

For me, I have yet to maximize the turbo of my hiace commuter when going South, coz I only stay within 100-120kph.

I just renewed my license and I don't wanna be apprehended (again!).

Btw, last time we went south, i'm inside my BIL's Innova doing 120kph while my other BIL was on a Monty doing a 140kph. Time was around 10 in the morning. The monty was flagged down, but not the innova.

Funny thing was the officer is taking his time lecturing my BIL about safe driving when my BIL keep saying "tikitan mo nako".
To make the story short, the officer was just asking for some merienda and my BIL handed him 100 bucks to let us go.

Nlex personnel are very considerate, they don't issue ticket as much as possible. They will help you if you have trouble/s with your vehicle, last option na yung ticket.

To be safe, get an AAP membership

Last September, 120kph as a max to my speed & I used 140kph for overtaking on NLEX & SCTEX.
No problem and no harm done!

For me, 100kph is not a problem!
Yun nga lang nakakainip pag maluwag ang daan lalo na sa expressway.

Pero kung karag-karag ang sasakyan, problema nga yan.
Pag truck lalo na yung may mga kargada, jeep na maraming pasahero...

Thats the problem. If the NLEX/SCTEX traffic was a little congested, the 100kph limit is fine. BUT with parts of the SCTEX being mostly carless, going faster should be allowed.

Many accidents could have been caused by drivers falling asleep at the wheel by getting bored by the featureless kilometers going by at the slow 100kph limit.

Yun nga Boss, wala rin naman ako magagawa lalo na kung may bantay na nagkalat sa expressway.

Wala naman din akong "valentine one" na radar detector, at ayaw ko naman ding mahuli. These both will surely cost bills in my pocket.

Pero pag kaya ng more than 100kph e bakit hindi.

I'm still wishing that SCTEX will be like the German Autobahn wherein there are no speed limits. But 'til then, people should first learn how to refrain from hogging the left lane especially when you're under 100kph!

agree...even in the US with a max speed of 65mph, you can go as fast as 70-75 because its more dangerous driving at 80kph on freeway...in malaysia you can see a sign of 100kph (max) but its just a sign according to my friend there were lots of accidents before following the speed limit on freeway with 4 lanes so their govt allow them to drive as fast as you can with caution (syempre) and their statistics for freeway accident ay bumaba if not totally zero for every month (as what he said).

Exactly. Cars today are way different from over a decade ago as they are much more stable, quiet and comfortable so driving at an open road at 100kph can really bring down the senses of the driver. The roads we also have now are much better so there are portions indeed where going over 120kph-140kph can be safely done in the proper conditions.

Also, IMO the cause of more accidents on the expressways are dilapidated trucks and speeding buses.

True, there are too many drivers who cannot understand the simple road courtesies and can't even properly judge the speed of a vehicle approaching from the rear (or look at the sidemirrors) before switching lanes. I remember my German Uncle, many years ago, almost rear ended another car the first time he drove on SLEX. He just kept his speed as he approached the slow vehicle since on the autobahn, the slow cars are expected to get the hell out of the way immediately and give way to the faster vehicle.
