I have thought of that too.
But the local authorities still use plain speed radar gun/cameras to catch speeders.
UK-style speed cameras tend to be big installations and quite expensive too (if compared to radar gun/cameras). Not something you would like to leave in the middle of nowhere for a long time.
Advantage for the NLEX people using vehicle mounted speed radar is they can reposition anytime quickly. So the simple threat of getting caught for speeding is enough to keep most people from going beyond 100kph for the entire length of the NLEX.
The plain fact that I have driven Manila-Subic in one hour a few times without getting caught means NLEX is NOT using average speed cameras. Normal speeds would take at least two hours to drive between Manila and Subic.
Unless there is a sudden major increase in radar-detector-users on the NLEX/SCTEX, I doubt if NLEX authorities would go for UK-style speed cams.Last edited by ghosthunter; October 4th, 2010 at 04:00 PM.
