I think his point is, why reinvent the wheel? We all know that proper implementation of existing laws (proper loading and unloading, respecting intersections, etc) will go farther than whimsical ideas.

Bakit hindi maayos ayos to? Lagi sinasabi political will ang kailangan. Eh binabandera ng admin na 'to na may political will sila. Saan na?

I do my best to not be a traffic nuisance on the road but I don't see enforcers penalizing those who are.

I'm just curious how the MMDA thinks that apprehending vehicles with heavy tints will resolve traffic problems in MM. The most glaring violations I see on the road are obstruction (moving and non-moving), as well as counter-flowing. Dark tints or not, they have a right to apprehend and issue tickets for those. A driver who is distracted with his mobile phone or device would likely be driving in such a manner that he is a moving obstruction.

I think it's more for crime prevention that traffic alleviation. But even then, without clear implementation rules and tools for enforcers, this is just another pointless initiative.

    I do.

It is just for this new law, I am skeptical if this can be really implemented.

sa mga nagtitipid, blade lang ang katapat.
"boss, i-blade natin yung full front tint ninyo. babatakin lang namin yung nasa ilalim, tapos ay kaunting linis... mura lang!"

Anyone saw CNN's interview with Orbos?

Gov't proposal restricts car tint in public, private vehicles - CNN Philippines

He said it's still being finalized but key takeaways are:

    - Uber and grab cars are not allowed to have tint
    - Windshield tint may be prohibited apart from the visor but at the end of the video, seems like they're taking into consideration women drivers.
    - Super black and one way tints are prohibited

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, January 2) — A ban on window tints for public transportation vehicles is in the works.

The measure is part of a new government proposal, which also seeks to regulate tints on private vehicles for anti-crime purposes.

"We're allowing the tint provided that it meets the standards set forth by the [Land Transportation Office]. We're finalizing [the standards], but definitely wala na po sa harapan [no tint in front]," Transport Undersecretary Tim Orbos told CNN Philippines' The Source.

He added the proposal has yet to go through another consultative meeting before final rules are issued.

It is expected to affect even transport network services like Uber and Grab, but other aspects of the proposal are still being ironed out.

"The front door, front windshield, we may allow the 6 inches doon sa [on the] visor. That's now being debated on," said Orbos.

He added that the proposal allows for a lighter tint on by the driver and passenger's seat, but a darker shade for the back seats.

Under the proposal, black tint and one-way tint is also banned.

The government is eyeing implementing the new rules for tints upon car registration.

Among those who submitted position papers for the proposal were Truck Manufacturers Association, Inc., Chamber of Automotive Manufacturers of the Philippines, and tinting services Luminex Corporation and 3M Philippines, Inc.

Orbos said the proposal was backed by the Philippine National Police, and it also seeks to screen out "colorum" vehicles. "Colorum" is a term used to describe vehicles providing illegal or unregistered transport services.

Previous issuances on window tints were dated 1976, 1978, and 1995. The 1995 Land Transportation Office memorandum already prohibited tints on public utility vehicles, although it has not been strictly implemented.

^ Dati, uso was no tint and white seat covers. Very clean to look at. Our cars were like that in the 80s up to the 90s. Unfortunately the heat and traffic have really changed things.

I don't mind the lighter tint shade requirement but i do hope they will still allow full front tint with a light shade for private vehicles on the following:
    - The heat while stewing in traffic during the summer (or else i'll be forced to shell out for the more expensive clear tints).
    - Privacy and security, especially for women drivers (I've had lady office mates who have been singled out by lawless elements when driving alone).

Here's to hoping that the new tint policy/law will mirror those from other countries rather than "uniquely pinoy" like number coding.

in some countries, front windshield tint is limited to a 9 inch strip at the top part.
    no tint below this.

I have no issue whatever tint law as long as properly implemented and no exceptions. Other countries have tint laws for a long time.

my observation against some of these lawmakers,
"kapag un-popular ang proposed batas, even if logical naman, ina-atras nila."
