malayo ang kuha ng camera kaya hindi halata. but i can see hint of bar code on the posted photo. grayish color on top left portion, above letter A.

Saw an actual one in person. There is indeed a very light gray shade bar code on the top left portion of the plate.

A good question is, what kind of information are stored in this bar code ?

From the press release last year, its supposed to contain pertinent information about the vehicle. But how could LTO possibly incorporate this in the plate production? Apply to LTO and LTO will manufacture the plate with all the info from the application form? I thought these plates are manufactured first ( by the contractor), turn over to LTO and LTO simply distributes them to the end user?

Or is the bar code simply an anti counterfeiting measure ?

saw a car with a new (NCR, with bar code) plate this morning, but it has the old format of 3 letters, 3 numbers, pero mukhang vanity plate kasi hindi "A" ang umpisa ng letters.

Pwede naman sir naka store na yung barcode number sa database nila then fill up na lang nila after maibigay sa owner yung plaka and nakuha na LTO yung owner info..

and yes may nakita ako na hindi ginamit yung prescribed lock.

Na-defeat din yun purpose ng LTO.

correct. sa database naman yan. so they just need to enter the barcode then store the info sa database. just like product barcodes.

The bolts were designed to thwart plate thieves and plate-distributing (among fleet cars, like a certain PUV company did with its vehicles... think "you", the nickname of the governor of batangas, and the missing word in "Air 21 ________ bastketball team". :D )

If the owner refuses to use them, they will be "charged" with "Improper Attachment" and fined Php200 (for now).

I got my new plates last Saturday and decided to avoid getting hassled so I attached them using the provided bolts. One of the bolts didn't want to go in. One went in only about a third of the way. I was tempted to use the old bolts and just let the potential apprehending LTO personnel install them for me when that time comes, but then I was able to hand-tighten the other 2 on the front plate, and after observing that the bolt doesn't break easily, I just tightened the 2 "defective" bolts using a wrench.

Most probably upon assigning a plate number to a registrant they will scan the bar code and input the information of the registrant and the vehicle where the plate has to be assigned.

Meron akong nakikitang temporary plate ng mga puv. 9 digits (xxxx-xxxxx). Hirap neto tandaan kung sakaling kailangan
