MMDA: Some sections of EDSA to be closed on 26th People Power anniversary

Some roads along Epifanio delos Santos Avenue (EDSA) will be closed this coming weekend for the 26th anniversary of the EDSA-1 People Power revolution, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority said Thursday.

In an announcement on its Twitter account, the MMDA advised motorists and commuters to take alternate routes it has listed.

The road closures will take effect starting Friday while other areas will be closed on Saturday.

On Friday, the fourth and fifth northbound lanes of EDSA near the People Power monument will be closed from 3 to 5 a.m. the MMDA said.

It said this is "for the rehearsal and preparation of venue."

On Saturday, the MMDA said the following areas will be closed to traffic:

-From 12:01 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. - fourth and fifth lanes of EDSA Northbound from Corinthians Gate to Aguinaldo Gate 4.

-From 5:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. - EDSA Northbound fully closed from Ortigas towards Santolan northbound.

-From 4:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. - Whiteplains Westbound from Temple Drive towards EDSA.


Alternate routes include:

Ortigas flyover to San Juan

Ortigas eastbound to C5

EDSA Kalayaan to C5

Shaw Blvd eastbound to C5

JP Rizal to Makati/Mandaluyong Bridge

Shaw and Julia Vargas to C5.
