paano na yung 160-300 people na nakasakay dun sa 160 cars, compared sa i'm guessing around 150 maximum capacity of people on those 4 buses? hehe..

Article on the new proposed scheme

MMDA mulls new number-coding scheme to keep your car off streets not once, but twice
    By: Clara Masinag, InterAksyon.com
    July 10, 2013 4:34 PM

MANILA, Philippines – Saying it could cut the number of vehicles on the road by 40 percent on any given day, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) said Wednesday it was eyeing a four-digit system now implemented in busy cities Rio de Janeiro and Santiago in Chile.

MMDA Chairman Francis Tolentino cited data to justify the tougher scheme they are contemplating: “In 2010 we only had around 1.9 million of registered vehicles in Metro Manila, but now it will reach 2.3 million so maybe we can adopt what is being implemented in Rio de Janeiro sa Brazil” which are implementing the four-digit number coding.”

Tolentino spoke to reporters at the sidelines of the two-day 11th Asian Crisis Management Conference (ACMC) at Crowne Plaza, Manila Galleria which the MMDA is hosting.

The planned shift from the current two-digit Unified Vehicular Volume Reduction Program (UVVRP) or the “number-coding” scheme into a four-digit system is just one of the solutions the agency is looking at to resolve traffic woes in the metropolis.

The MMDA chief said there is urgency in easing traffic problems in Metro Manila, particularly at the Epifanio de los Santos Avenue (EDSA), where more than 325, 000 public and private vehicles, or 1,200 per lane per hour, pass everyday.

Tolentino explained that under the planned new proposal, vehicles get barred from roadways not just once, but twice.

In the scheme being considered, plate numbers ending with the following digits will be banned from major thoroughfares on assigned days, as below:

    1, 2, 3, 4 banned on Mondays
    5, 6, 7, 8 banned on Tuesdays
    9, 0, 1, 2 banned on Wednesdays
    3, 4, 5, 6 banned on Thursdays
    7, 8, 9, 0 banned on Fridays
Under the current system, vehicles with plate numbers ending in 1 and 2 are not allowed outside on Mondays, 3 and 4 on Tuesdays, 5 and 6 on Wednesdays, 7 and 8 on Thursdays and 9 and 0 on Fridays.
I am scared of the other "solutions" that Tolentino could come up with :nerves:

55x4 = 220 people max capacity. Not including standing room.

Dapat yung chairman ng MMDA isang typical person who experienced both riding public transportations AND being hassled on the road by these PUVs while driving his/her own car. For sure he/she will fully understand the dilemma and will come up with a brilliant solution that will benefit the majority. Mahirap kasi magimplement against PUV kasi nakaprivate kalang palagi, or mahirap naman magimplement against privates kasi lagi ka naka MRT/LRT/Bus/Jeeps.

Kung matutuloy to, I'll surely buy my own 2nd hand small car like Gets, Celerio, Mirage, etc. By doing that, isa nako dun sa mga magdadagdag ng cars for coding purposes lang. I experienced riding buses/MRT/LRT/Jeeps almost half of my life (by the way, Im just on my mid 20s ) and to tell frankly, ayoko na sumakay ulit sa mga to kung coding ang car ko. Kapag nasanay ka sa convenience ng private, it'll be hard to go back to riding publics.

    Ikaw, magcocommute kaba??

agree na agree ako dito. im also on my 20's and lumaki akong nagcocommute lang kaming pamilya pag naalis ng bahay. we just recently bought our first family car because we see the need for it. im working and yung pagod sa work sa hospital, eh dadagdagan pa ng pagod sa pagantay ng bus, pakikipagsiksikan makatungtong lang sa may entrance ng bus, yung standing ka for over 30km + traffic route.

I commute until now, and yes, iba talaga comfort pag nagdala ng sariling kotse. Which is why it's understandable that private motorists are remiss about the plan to increase coding days if it means having to take public transpo.

Which is why kailangan unahin muna na ayusin yung public transpo bago pilitin mga tao na lumipat dun. By ayos I mean greater capacity for the trains and better scheduling for the buses.

^ Agree with this. Improve Public Transportations first.

The problem is for now, this will just stay as a fantasy. Sana meron mag step-up to implement this.

    Strongly agree.

Usually nman mga private vehicles, excluding those that are used for businesses, alis haus yan den diretso office and stay kotse nila sa office parking for d next 6-10 hrs den bbyahe na lang ulit diretso uwi na. Meaning the time used in plying the streets of metro manila is very minimal unlike sa mga mas kokonti na mga PUV pero maghapon nman na babad sa kaka ikot sa mga lansangan.

So dapat kung magkaroon man ng twice a week na coding, dapat applicable na lang yan sa mga PUVs!

They are being very inconsiderate and insensitive. Sabihin natin kumunti nga ang kotse sa kalsada, pero at the expense of greater inconveniences naman. Who here can truly say from the bottom of their hearts that it is more comfortable and convenient to take public transport instead of using your own car? Besides, many of those who have just one car will just go ahead and buy another. And then now that they make it even more inconvenient, even more people will be persuaded to buy 2nd cars and therefore even more cars on the road...

Haha nice! Ayos tong bagong coding pag nagkataon.

Meron kami 2 cars, pero twice a week lang namin ginagamit each car, including weekends. Para samin mas less inconvinient mag commute, compared sa magdrive in heavy traffic, also cheaper, free exercise, at nkalatulog pa sa byahe.

We pay a price for convinience and now it would just be more expensive.

    http://www.mmda.gov.ph/penalties.html

Kung ma-implement lang ito ng tama, we do not need even the current number coding.
