Good if they can get this off. Can't really rely much on our government; hopefully the Fort follows suit and can make an underground BRT to connect the CBD, FTI, Edsa and the Fort among others.

And please, hope the Binays don't claim dibs on this project being theirs.

Property developer Ayala Land Inc. said Thursday it is keen on pursuing the P800-million bus rapid transit project in Makati City and is just waiting for government approval.

Ayala Land urban regional planning division manager Salvador Tan said the company’s proposal had been pending with Transportation Department since 2011.

“If the government approves it, we will start it right away. The infrastructure is quite simple. It is basically replicating the operation of a train using buses on dedicated lanes,” Tan told reporters at the sidelines of Makati City’s transportation summit.

He said the approval by the government hinged on how the project would address the impact on public utility vehicles drivers who might lose their jobs.

“Yes, it has an impact on them but we had studied it already. They can be rerouted or relocated and look for other districts where they can still serve the public. And for others, we can provide them with either livelihood or economic assistance. It’s not that we will just remove them, we have plan for them. We have prepared remedial measures,” Tan said.

Ayala Land plans to build a five to six underground BRT stations that would link the Metro Rail Transit 3, Philippine National Railways and the Light Rail Transit Line 1 out of the Makati central business district.

Tan said the BRT fares would be comparable to air-conditioned buses at a minimum of P12.

He said the right-of-way for the BRT project would be entirely owned by Ayala Land, and there would be “no risk or exposure to the government.”

The company will team up with the association of building owners in the district who can tap the development fund to help finance the P800-million project.

Tan said Ayala Land might also set up a separate operating company that would look into the operation of the BRT.
