I just notcied a car wearing a 'ZCx xxx' plate number and I wondered what will happen once it reaches ZZZ 999?

LTO may start to issue 7 character plates, or change the order, say make it 1 numeric, 3 alpha, then 2 numeric.

It's entirely up to them. I vaguely remember they issued everybody new plates back in the early 80's when they adopted the current 3 alpha 3 numeric format.

wala pa naman yata 17 million vehicles na naregister. take note that there are special letters assigned to particular vehicles. like S for government vehicles and T for puv. also before, if i remember right, each region had a different first letter, like A-region 1, B -region 2, C -region 3... and N for NCR, to be able to prevent the registration of carnapped vehicles from one region to the other. but this was before there was a rapid rise in the number of cars on the road and they had to abandon this yata.

so A-L + N for the 13 regions, T for PUV and S for govt, that's 15 letters off the alphabet already. I don't remember seeing any M (passed over? A-L then N agad), nor any O and Q (coz they look the same?). there were P, R, U, V, W, X, Y, Z.

letters I, O, & Q were not used before because 'I' looks like 1, 'O' & 'Q' looks like zero. but they are now permitted to be used since mauubos na ang combinations. letters P, T, U, W, X, & Z are for those registered in the NCR after letter 'N' was used up. letter 'R' is now the plate for Region 3 after letter 'C' was used up.

the letter 'T' was not for PUVs only. PUVs are also given the first letter assigned to the region where they are registered. all PUV plates have the letters U, V, W, X, Y, Z as middle letters.

New plates to date is having 3 letters and 2 numbers nalang. most of the new suv's (pajeros and fortuners) have these.

these are special plates with a premium of 25K.

Kagabi may nakita kami along edsa black na mazda tribute A*O 01 yung plates, kala ko nung una nag reset na yung mga plate numbering, pero most likely isa to dun sa mga special plates na pang harap at likod.

L is not only in Davao. Whole Region 11, the sequence now is LFU XXX na..

Ah ganun ba? Akala ko new plates na, ganda pa naman tingnan coz it looks neat. Parang nasa Pinas ako from way back when coz my dad had the same plate sequencing when during our beetle days..hehe.
