in the US you can drive for 3 months using the license of your home country (it varies from state to state but it generally holds true)....ewan ko lang if it matters whether it's a pro or a non-pro license.

one advantage of the international license is that it comes with a automatic TPL policy in case you hit anybody while you're here.

Nung hinuli ako nung pulis hindi pwede yung international license, kailangan kasama yung original license mo from your country (non-pro in my case). May plano kasi kaming kumuha ng sasakyan noon kaya kumuha kami ng international license para sa proof of previous insurance (TPL as noted by M54). I saved 50% on my new car insurance ($400 din yun). Three months nga lang as M54 also mentioned.

Macky: So you mean pwede yung non-pro ko sa US. Sa L.A. lang naman siguro ako drive to las vegas. Tsaka less than a month lang ako dun. so I dont need to change my license na ba?

Also how about the insurance?? Panu kaya arrangement nun.

    thanks

the AAP (former PMA) is the place to go for an int'l license. i got one once when i had to drive in the US (Kansas and Missouri) back in '97, and did not need to get a pro license for it. in fact, home country driver's license lang ang hinanap ng Avis, at na bale-wala lang ang int'l drivers license ko doon

the insurance aspect then was an option...you could buy insurance if you wanted to, for the duration of the car rental. other agencies, insurance was a given kaya mas mahal.

No need for Int'l DL while visiting the US. Your non-pro or pro DL is valid for three months. Just bring your passport with you also while driving.

Insurance is optional if you are renting a car but I strongly suggest to get the no-liability coverage. I think it is an additional $9/day. At least peace of mind. No liability Ins releases you from from any occurence, fault or no fault, you just return the car and walk away.

Pede non-pro license natin sa Pinas sa US for 3 months. Di ko lang sure kung 3 months pa den..... baka 30 days na lang as scarab pointed out.

As long as may inforced car insurance yung friend or auntie's car mo, covered ka na at yung kotse..... di mo na kailangang kumuha ng insurance. Pede mo nang i-drive yung kotse basta't may valid driver's license ka.

What Macky meant was as long as your aunt's automobile insurance policy is "in-force", ok ka. Of course with consent from your aunt. Tama Ba Mack?

Remember in the US, the automobile is the one that is insured not who is the driver. Although the insurance company will pay for the medical expense if any of the drivers are injured which is under the Bodily Injury coverage.
