    The story goes like this:

My friend was driving along Nlex, when one of his tires ran out of air, apparently because of a puncture. Not long after, Nlex Highway Patrol Group arrived to assist. The HPG then told my friend to place EWD (early warning device), which, he did not have. The HPG almost gave him a ticket, but I guess with a little luck, they let my friend off, and just helped him instead.

    Now my questions are:

    1. Is there really a law that requires motorists to have EWDs in their cars?
    2. I'm not too sure about this, but why does it not come as part of stock tools in our cars?
    3. Has anyone encountered a similar situation, and if yes, what did you do afterwards?

    1. Memorandum Circular

    2. Some cars do, some don't, depending on the dealer. Car shops and some hardware stores sell these for less than 500.

    3. I haven't needed to use mine yet, since I didn't stop on the road the last 2 times I got a flat.

Got involved same in a same incident as your friend sa NLEX din, naputukan naman ako gulong.

Wala din ako EWD that time, dumating NLEX patrol helped me to replace my tire sa shoulder.

Luckily Hindi naman ako natiketan due to not having one.

Pero it is really a must talaga, now I got one.

Parang sa registration hinahanap din if may EWD ka, may naka experience na ba sa inyo?

I have one in each of our rides.

    Plus flashlight (for each), too...

Visuals are musts especially during the night.

    1. again, yespo. it is a requirement. count yourself lucky, if you haven't yet been denied registration, because your car didn't have one.
    2. "because it costs money." and the law does not require them to. but it's so cheap, you should consider yourself a pasaway, if you don't get one now.
    3. errr... which one, sir? there are at least three situations in your narration. but seriously, nopo. i have a pair of EWDs in the car at all times.

it's required by law to have a set, red and yellow.
some time before at east ave lto they will not renew your registration if you do not have an ewd.
libre lang yan sa dealer. di na nga dapat hinahaggle pa ang libreng ewd kasi dapat standard equipment na yan sa kotse as it is required by law.

Do all dealers give them for free? I agree, it should come as part of the car upon purchase. All along I thought yung mga kotse meron na kagad.

Like someone mentioned above, it wasn't checked when we had our cars registered. And even though it was a minor one, I didn't want to experience what my friend did, and so I bought a few EWDs myself when I heard from him. I guess my slight frustration is, dapat nga po standard equipment siya since it is required by law.
