The DPWH will begin (finally!)of the long awaited Metro Manila Interchange Construction Project, G. Araneta Ave. (C-3) /Quezon Avenue (R-7) Interchange. Construction will begin mid/late June. Be advised to start looking for alternative routes.

Bautista upset over 2 projects of Public Works
    by Rio N. Araja

QUEZON City Herbert Bautista is upset over the construction of an underpass and a flyover by the Department of Public Works and Highways on Quezon Avenue and Araneta Avenue, saying the twin project would cause traffic from Edsa up to Morayta Street in Manila amid the rainy season and the impending opening of classes.

Bautista met with some DPWH officials and traffic supervisors of Manila City to closely coordinate with them, and require the submission of a traffic management plan to ease up the expected bottleneck that would result from the construction in the next 15 months.

“The DPWH had already informed us about the bid-out of the projects, and that these would kick off in June, the height of the rainy season. Moreover, students will be returning next month,” he told the Manila Standard.

“That’s why I called for an interagency meeting to address traffic considering Quezon Avenue and Araneta Avenue are not that big.”

He said he has instructed Elmo San Diego, the city’s Department of Public Order and Safety head, to coordinate with the Metro Manila Development Authority and local officials within the barangays covered by the two projects.

Ric de Vera, chief of the DPWH-National Capital Region’s Planning and Design Section, said the department’s Urban Project Office would put up a 300-meter tunnel from Quezon Avenue in front of the Rapide branch up to Sto. Domingo Church (?), and a flyover on Sgt. Rivera Street corner A. Bonifacio Road along Circumferential Road No. 3 going to Araneta Avenue to connect Quezon City to Caloocan City.

He said the infrastructure improvements are designed to reduce traffic on the two main roads.

QC intersection to be partially closed to traffic | Inquirer News
    By Jaymee T. Gamil
    Philippine Daily Inquirer
    10:58 pm | Sunday, June 12th, 2011

Motorists should avoid the Quezon Avenue–G. Araneta Avenue intersection in Quezon City for the next few weeks if they want to avoid getting caught in heavy traffic.

Starting Wednesday, the busy intersection will partially be closed to vehicles in preparation for the construction of an underpass in the area.

The 440-meter-long, four-lane underpass is part of the C-3/Quezon Avenue Interchange Project and is expected to improve traffic flow in the area.

    Alternate routes

The Quezon City government, the Department of Public Works and Highways and the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority, meanwhile, advised motorists passing through the area to take alternate routes with the intersection’s closure starting this week.

The agencies concerned, however, did not give a target date for the completion of the project.

Those who will be affected by the rerouting are motorists bound for Quiapo, Manila, coming from Edsa in Quezon City.

Also affected are motorists coming from Espaņa Boulevard in Manila and passing through Quezon Avenue on their way to Edsa and those who pass through G. Araneta Avenue on their way either to Sta. Mesa in Manila or Quezon City.

Given the nearby areas flooding history, why are they going to build an underpass?

Alternate routes are quite hard to come-by in that particular area IMO.

    E. Rod - Araneta is bad already as is, same goes with Del Monte.

Actually, the underpass was designed to solve the flood problem of Espana and Araneta-E.Rod avenues... it'll be a new catch basin. QC's answer to the Lagusnilad underpass... bigger, better. :D

Sarap babain at itanggal yung tape and plastic barriers blocking it. It takes 15 minutes traffic every day. Imagine the fuel and wasted hours til the opening just to satisfy someone's ego...

What you need to know about the new Quezon Ave. underpass - News | TopGear.com.ph

What you need to know about the new Quezon Ave. underpass
    25 Sep 2012 Printer-Friendly Version

The Department of Public Works and Highway (DPWH) has confirmed it: The underpass underneath the intersection of Quezon Avenue and Araneta Avenue will be opened to the motoring public this Friday, September 28.

Just before it opens in time for the weekend, let's look at the facts and figures behind the C-3 (Araneta Avenue)/Quezon Avenue Interchange Project.

    * Originally scheduled to be completed by December 10, 2012, the underpass has been completed ahead of schedule after DPWH secretary Rogelio Singson ordered that work on the project be done 24 hours a day, seven days a week, "to accelerate work completion and minimize traffic inconvenience" after it commenced on June 20, 2011.

    * Despite having an approved budget of P534 million, which was sourced from national government funds, the underpass reportedly only cost taxpayers P452 million, "saving us" P82 million in the process.

    * Besides involving the construction of a depressed underpass with a length of 440 lineal meters and 330 lineal meters, the project also included the installation of three submersible pumps, each with an individual capacity of 277L per second, and is backed up by a power house with a generating set and a motor circuit control that are ready to operate depending on the intensity of the rain.

    * The DPWH also constructed water cisterns beneath the underpass and built reinforced concrete boxes and pipe culverts to help manage flooding.

    * The project also covers the widening of the Mariblo Bridge, improvement of service roads, and a provision for street lighting, pavement markings, and traffic signs.

    * Based on a strategic traffic master plan jointly conducted by the Japan International Cooperating Agency and the University of the Philippines' National Center for Transportation Studies, the Quezon Avenue underpass project is ranked number one as "the most feasible with the least cost to improve traffic condition along Quezon Avenue and Araneta Avenue."

    * The project will also complement other transport development plans that are being looked at along Quezon Avenue, like the LRT Line 4 and the Skyway Phase 3.

Pang gas ng pump kaya? Meron sila? Huwag naman matulad sa habagat na naubusan ng gasolina yung pumps. And if they pump out the water, to where does it go?
