    Number coding resumes Monday

THE Unified Vehicle Volume Reduction Program (UVVRP) will resume Monday, June 5 after a two-month suspension.
This reminder was issued yesterday by the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) in compliance with a resolution of the Metro Manila Council (MMC), the agency’s policy-making body.
The resumption of the UVVRP coincides with the opening of a new school year.
Many of the schools are expected to open their doors to students on Monday.
The suspension, which began April 6, was effected by MMDA after the MMC resolution was ratified by majority of Metro Manila’s 17 mayors.
    More vehicles on road
The scheme allows vehicles to be out on the road for only four weekdays to reduce daily traffic volume by some 20 percent. The program does not cover weekends.
MMDA Traffic Operations Center Executive Director Angelito Vergel de Dios said it was expected that the opening of classes would increase the volume of vehicles on Metro
    Manila’s road.
“We really need to restore the scheme,” he said.
Though Vergel de Dios said traffic would have been lighter the past two months if the program was not suspended, he said the move did not disrupt traffic flow as the volume of vehicles in the metropolis during the long school break had decreased.
The agency conducted a volume count on critical areas during the suspension period.
Results of the count would guide the agency next year in deciding whether or not to suspend the program again.
    Permanent lifting
‘The MMDA is set to discuss with Metro Manila mayors the permanent lifting of the scheme at the outskirts of the metropolis.
MMDA Chair Bayani Fernando thinks lifting the ban in the cities of Muntinlupa, Valenzuela and Malabon, for instance, would not affect the inner cities.
The exemption could encourage motorists to travel to nearby provinces, like Bulacan in the north, Laguna in the south, and Rizal in the east.
But Vergel de Dios said vehicles in these cities would still have to comply with the UVVRP when they enter another city where the scheme was in place

Same here, wala namang difference. Kahit nung suspended pa yung coding, late pa rin ako umaabot sa kalye. Yun nga lang, I may have to go back to my old (longer) route papuntang office, since siguradong traffic na naman sa Katipunan once classes reopen.

Coding na naman!!!
