To people passing through this major road everyday, what can you say?

Read in the newspaper that this had just been approved.

I tried doing it earlier today, and it just felt... slow. Hopefully it'll improve mileage, and reduce the number of casualties in the "highway of death" (be it the occasional pedestrian roadkill, or the regular fast car meets concrete barrier).

I live in the Commonwealth area. I think they should just create more pedestrian over-passes along Commonwealth, remove those MMDA u-turns and stop PUVs from cris-crossing across the lanes of the hiway. Im just wondering how this will be implemented, may mga radar guns ba ang mga traffic enforcers? Or can they accurately guess the speed of every vehicle? :D

I have absolutely no idea how they're going to uphold it.

But at these speeds, you're driving side by side with the swerving jeeps and buses.

About the U-turn slots, there's this "new" permanent U-turn slot near batasan, which has created a massive choke point. No idea why they had to eat up to 3 lanes of commonwealth for this. way to go MMDA.

60kph speed limit? Ok lang. It's the max speed I'm usually at every time I pass on Commonwealth anyway, when I go to my folks' place.

IMO, 60kph is way too slow for that wide open road.... I drive on this road on weekends going to my in-laws place near INK..... Not sure how they're going to implement this.... Matrapik malamang pag nagsimula silang mag-implement at manghuli....

I'm with you on this bro. I live in the area and I am AT A COMPLETE LOSS why the heck the MMDA had to create this massive U-Turn Slot near Batasan. As bro scharnhorst said, it's permanent - as in they made a concrete barrier/sidewalk to wall off the u-turn slot. They didn't even use the movable concrete or orange plastic barriers that can easily be removed IF AND WHEN THEY REALIZE THAT THIS WAS A STUPID MOVE TO BEGIN WITH!

60 kph max speed?

If they want to implement this, they should be visible with the capability na manghabol like CRDi pick ups/mobile patrol, Altis etc. para naman may “ dating” but if they will just put MMDA in an MC na di mo alam kung galing sa pampasada na pininturahan lang ng blue or white eh walang pupuntahan 'to paglalaruan lang sila.

i pass by this highway everyday. ok lang naman 60KPH. IMO, i think MMDA should put priority in upholding policies involving pedestrians crossing the highway. para kasi akong nakikipagpatintero sa mga tumatawid sa commonwealth araw-araw. they should also clear out the illegal vendors sa highway especially dyan sa may litex.

about the permanent u-turn slots -- what were they thinking?? baka balak nilang magtayo ng headquarters dito.

Okay lang sana tong U-turn slot, it's simply the size that begs an explanation.

There should be strict implementation of this ruling during the wee hours - this is when the major accidents happen.

I think 60kph is OK for badly worn vehicles that ply that avenue but for those with newer cars that can drive faster more comfortably and with peace of mind (of not getting stuck with jeeps, tricycles, etc that all want to swerve into the U turn slots) I think it has to be increased to around 80kph naman. It's around a 7-lane highway already! That even merits 100kph speed limit but due to the condition of the concrete/asphalt it's nowhere near as safe to do so.

In fairness, they installed a lot of reflectors on the U turn slot barriers now. But they still cannot control and discipline reckless drivers.

Among one of the weirdest things I've seen on Commonwealth are two motorcycles that collided with each other, people driving so fast while simultaneously swerving to the U turn slots (or from them), tricycles that can't even get out of its own way, and drivers who are so impatient that they have to cross perpendicular to the lanes just to get to the nearest U turn slot and get a lot of mad drivers cursing at them at their wake. Even more disappointing are the amount of pedestrians that cross the Manggahan area, putting a speed limit of 60kph in that area will not solve the problem. It will actually even encourage daredevils to run faster since they know motor vehicle drivers and owners can now be held liable.

Badly constructed roads and the inability to discipline reckless motorists are not valid reasons to support the speed limit, IMHO. I mean, I see alot of Vios police cars around night time on Commonwealth but they don't do anything at all and just cruise along with their siren lights blinking (w/o sounds).

Ano ata.......ang maximum speed sa Commonwealth is 60kph (from dating 40kph).

How they will do it? Susundan daw nila, then titingin sila sa sarili nilang speedometer ng mobile nila. Ha-ha! Kung lampas ng 60kph.......huli ka!

Along Commonwealth a strict 60kph maximum speed limit will be implemented.

Also vehicles will be lane segregated according to their type. Like PUVs will use lane 1 & 2, delivery trucks on lane 5, private cars on lanes 6 & 7, u-turn only on lanes 8 & 9.

ALL tricycles will be banned from using Commonwealth Ave.

    That's all I could remember (can't remember what goes on Lanes 3 & 4).

    fellow tsikoteers!

this was from the MMDA website.

take a look here na lang...

..saka yung driver ng Honda na blue(ZDO-595),kapal talaga oh..not once but twice..errrr
