MMDA ‘PINK’ lines to separate street from sidewalk

MANILA, Philippines -- After street fences, bicycle lanes, pedestrian overpasses and even public urinals, another fixture in the streets of Metro Manila will soon bear Bayani Fernando's favorite color -- pink.

This time, the chair of the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) is bent on painting all the sidewalks of major and secondary roads around the metropolis with two-inch pink lines.

His objective: stopping drivers from parking their cars on the sidewalks.

Aptly dubbed the "Pink Line Project," the undertaking would be part of MMDA's effort to strictly enforce illegal parking laws, Fernando said.

"Let us now return the sidewalks to the people who face the risk of being sideswiped by running vehicles because they cannot walk freely on the sidewalks," he said in a statement. "This is the best way to instill discipline in some uncaring people who disregard the law and wantonly inconveniencing their fellowmen."

Many car owners who do not have their own garage often park their cars on the sidewalks, blocking the way of pedestrians, he said.

Fernando said violators who would park on the pink lines would be issued traffic violation receipts for illegal parking, and face the risk of being towed, once spotted.

I was told that during the Marcos era, you could not buy a vehicle unless you had a garage for it.

Maybe it's time to implement it again given the current situtation?

If this cannot be done, at least provide proper parking facilites that people can use so as not to inconvenience themselves and others.

As for the color pink, yeah, stick to the international standards.

That way, they really look official and easy to understand and not look like one of those backyard painted signs you often see squatters post when they turn the street into a basketball court or something to that effect.

ok to kung maiimplement talaga, kasi nahihirapan din naman talaga karamihan lalo na kung dadaan ka sa two lane street tapos may mga nakaparada at salubungan kaya titigil yung isa or minsan di makaandar kasi may sumasabay pa na nagbibisikleta or nagmomotor. medyo madami mapepeperwisyo lalo na yung walang garahe pero para sa ikabubuti naman ito ng mas nakararami.

It's about time! Sidewalks should only be used by pedestrians. Not for parking cars.

    a. Huwag bumili ng sasakyan
    b. Magbenta ng isa para palit lang
    c. Bumili ng bahay na may/mas malaking garahe

Kaya nga public road, ibig sabihin hati tayong lahat, so huwag niyong angkinin. Yung iba mas makapal pa actually, nilalagyan pa ng harang yung mismong kalsada para reserved yung slot.

    Tumpak

Sa busy street naman, NO PARKING ON EITHER SIDE. Laging may umiikot na wrecker. Kaya bihira lang ang illegal parking. Maayos, may daanan ang cars and pedestrian.
