Manila to podium 40 mins! Yeah!

    Salamat apec!

Weird along ortigas corner Connecticut all MCs are flagged down, andami for the routine check point.

I find this very discriminating, naka MCs lang ba ang threat?

Akala ko pati ako pinapara, yun pala police are telling me to proceed.

Ortigas ave no more right turn to edsa southbound. Sarado na din kanina.

hindi discrimination yan, mas mataas lang ang risk ng naka motor kase madali maka punta at makatakas kung sakali, kung cage ka eh maipit k sa trapik not unlike sa motor na pwede sumingit...

medyo sort of OT lang. With the traffic most people suffered lately because of APEC and also the Billions of pesos the government spent for this event, I cant help but think about the benefit that we can get out of this as a host. I mean probably we will indeed get something from this but is it worth it - versus the 10 billion pesos we "invest" on this plus the lost jobs/salary/productivity because of holiday and traffic? I remember during the 90s when the Philippines hosted this, the government was also saying that we would benefit from this and that it was an opportunity to showcase our country. Now, did we turn those opportunity into something beneficial? What were the direct results of that event? AFAIK, we are still a third world country. And some people are even saying that arguably the Philippines was better during those times than now.

Also what were the benefits that other host countries got from this? Yearly, different countries host APEC. I heard, the list is up to 2022. Are there figures or facts that will relate progress ( or benefit vs expenditure as a host country) to being an APEC host country?

Or is it just mandatory for a member country to host APEC periodically?

The goverment keep on bragging all that we are to benefit in 1-10 years time i heard sa news last night. That's one great BULLSHIT to cover up the mess they have done. I can't see the benefit as we've hosted it in 1996 and look at our poverty & hunger level, it continues to increase. Besides, APEC summit are done annually, so why would the benefit be only now? Is it because we're hosting? It's another BS to ssume such cause if we follow that priciple of host will benefit , then the succeeding host will also benefit, so mag equalize lang.

There's this one Apec committee head who happens to be the brother of a former colleague who justify the benefit as 10000 delegates arriving and will be spending to generate income as tourist. Let's do the math, the goverment spends 10B divide it by 10,000 equals 100,000. Are each to spend that amount just to recover the 10B , no profit yet. That does not include PAL's loss of $18.7M already on cancellation & rebooking alone. Wala pa dyan yung other business at kay Jaun dela Cruz.

As this was suppose economic benefit summit, how come every trip ng goverment official specially the president, he will brag bringing home x amount of investments. Eh if they can bring in the investment, who need's apec hosting? Again, there are much better options it's just this administration is too dumb to pick the worst!

i know the general sentiment is that APEC will be good for us...and the government is selling the APEC preparations as a 10B investment. Two things:

-- as sir macsd said, i seriously doubt if the 10B has factored in the losses that businesses, workers, etc incurred because of the APEC preparations

-- if we are to consider the APEC as an investment, then like any other investment, proper accounting must be made so that we will know, in numerical terms, whether it was a worthwhile investment or not. And one way to maximize profits is to minimize cost -- not only in the preparations but also in the "collateral damage" done.

i'm not saying we should stop hosting APEC summits, but we should remain critical of the preparations made, costs incurred, identify what can be improved, etc so the next time we'll do better. i think it's wrong to consider APEC(or more accurately, its effects) as some sort of natural disaster, where we can't do anything but to just grin and bear it. Kahit naman supertyphoon, we do make preparations to mitigate the costs/damage.

I realize the questions that we have raised here can be answered by the "benefit" of 1996 APEC when we first hosted it. History is just repeating itself.
