SOME 875 driver’s licenses were cancelled by the Land Transportation Office Licensing Section in 2005 because of age misrepresentation.
This was announced yesterday by assistant secretary and LTO chief Anneli Lontoc based on the official report of Eleonor Madrid, chief of LTO-LS.
According to Republic Act 4136, a person must be at least 17 years old to secure a non-professional driver’s license and at least 18 years old for a professional license.
However, there are those who declared a different birth date when they initially applied for license. LTO’s license section discovers such act once the person comes back to correct his birth date.
“When they renew their license and apply for a revision of birth date, we compare this birth date against the one they declared in their initial application of license” said Madrid, “From here we discover discrepancies and later find out that there are those were underage when they applied for the first time,” Madrid said.
According to Lontoc, all violators based on the existing rules and regulations of Transportation Law were penalized by LTO by suspending their driver’s license for a year.

also they must be strict in their requirements plus stiffer penalties must be meted to those who misrepresented their age. one way of generating income din yun wag lang nilang ibu-bulsa.

As long as it is valid, bring a printed copy. Then, they will ask you to use one of the PCs there...
