Parang yun kasi ang sabi sa thread na ito. How a variable geometry turbo works

Anyone who has a Fortuner with the 3L D4D has a Variable Geometry turbo charger,
the 2.5L D4D engines, afaik, also have the Variable Geometry Turbo Charger
Local Fortuner has LSD? . Or is the poster referring to the Torsen center diff (not an actual axle mounted LSD).

Anyone tried 'testing' for an LSD? [lifting both rear tires, spin one, if the other spins in the same direction then it's LSD, if not it's an open diff]

Anyone care to shed some light? Thanks

walang rear LSD yung local Fortuner to my knowledge. he could be referring to the locking limited-slip center diff

According to Top Gear Philippines, meron daw ang LOCAL Fortuner.

Sa Toyota PH Website it's not mentioned kung meron or wala. Other Toyota websites (e.g. Malaysia, Brunei...etc.), the Torsen LSD feature is heavily marketed na meron.

So, I'll take it....with a grain of salt.

i think the local Fortuner has a lockable Torsen center diff (which is effectively a limited-slip unit when unlocked), however, it does not have a limited-slip diff at the rear axle.

A center diff is a device that allows a 4wd vehicle to operate on paved roads.

An axle mounted LSD is a traction aiding device for off-road use. A full locking rear diff is offered in some markets as well.

Local units have a Torsen LSD for the center diff. I'm not sure about the rear axle. I thought it was open all along.

    How about the VGT?

    AFAIK

For the Fortuner it has torsen-type diffs for the center & open-type diffs for both axles. It is not equipped with a "classical" LSD at the axles.

While for the gen2 Rav4 it uses a vicsous-coupling differential instead for the center & open-type diffs for both axles.

And NO... the 3.0L & 2.5L D4D engines here are not VGT equipped. Maybe for the European D4D engines (I know their 2.2L D4D engine pumps out more torque than the 3.0L D4D).

The simple answer to the question raised in the topic title is... Yes...

    VGT/VNT - check
    LSD - check

Oh... okay, just looked at Toyota's website...

    http://www.toyota.com.ph/showroom/fortuner/specs.html

Yup... Torsen LSD and Variable Nozzle turbines.

    silly me! Sorry Fortunerclub boys!
...still doesn't feel much like it compared to Korean VGTs, but maybe it's just a matter of compressor mapping and nozzle design...

    But still... 145 hp Corolla?

    http://www.toyota.com.ph/showroom/co...sia/specs.html

Hindi lang 145 ps, ha... 147 ps pa daw siya! Celica motor na yata yun! By the bye... the "base" 145 hp Celica motor requires 6500 rpm to get 145 hp, whereas Toyota Philippines quotes 145 hp at 6000 rpm... oh well... here's an excellent site with dyno tests for the two engines... you decide... Corolla Celica

Hehe... hey, mbt, may Toyota dealership ba sa Fort? Puwede kaya ipa-dyno test ang Corolla sa Autotechnika?

The Torsen LSD is for the center diff.

I'm asking about a rear LSD. Apparently it has. But I didin't have the chance to physically check whether the media unit had LSD.

baka iba yung VGT sa VNT.

Hyundai uses BorgWarner VGT (i read somewhere while researching about it before we bought one).

2.2L VGT CRDi I-4 engine ( i assume CRDi are all the same template engine design), it can produce 150Hp and 335Nm

3.0L VGT CRDi V-6 produces 240HP with 480Nm of Torque (Hyundai Veracruz 3.0L CRDi)

Nope. Variable geometrical turbo(VGT) is something completely different. Variable nozzle turbo (VNT) worked on the compressor side and didn't have to deal with the high temps of exhaust gas. VGT works on exhaust side to eliminate lag and is far more effective in delivering higher torque and horsepower.

Is the Toyota Fortuner VGT and LSD equipped?
