I don't have a RAV4 nor the Fortuner, although I am sure RAV4's features is not even close to a Fortuner, this is not even mentioning the POGI points.

Maybe you should have researched first before blurting that out...

Rav4 features (not found in the Fortuner):
rear disc brakes, engine immobilizer (plus keyless entry), 10-disc CD changer, two-tone interior upholstery (and uses better fabrics), two-tone exterior, rear fog lamps (not a big deal though),

Fortuner features (not found in the Rav4):
trip computer, side stepboards, optitron gauges, leather wrapped steering wheel, low-range gear (in the 4WD version), factory alarm (without an immobilizer but with keyless entry), 6-speakers (but still sucks compared to the Rav4's stock speakers), auto climate control, mp3 enabled HU

Hi Guys,
My 5K kilometer maintenance checkup is due soon and I want your opinion about the oil that I will be using. What is more adviseable: fully-synthetic oil but oil change every 10K or semi-synthetic oil which is changed every 5K?

I am not sure if the price difference between the fully synthetic oil versus the semi-synthetic is practical now because of the high costs of fuels. I am more inclined to do a more frequent oil change thus I am leaning towards using semi-synthetic which is what is in my fortuner right now.

My other gas vehicle is using synthetic ever since but since this is a sedan, I only need 4 liters per oil change. The Fortuner needs 6 liters so the price difference is substantial. I also noticed in my other car though that when I do my 10K kilometer oil change, the oil is already very dirty by this time so it might be helpful for the car engine to change the oil more frequently.

But then since the fortuner is still new, the oil won't be as dirty after using it for 10K kilometers.

I need your enlightenment on this.

I use a fully synthetic oil on my CRV and change it every 10Tkm,but according to one of my trusted mechanic noting beats a 5tkm change oil even if you have to use a regular motor oil with the correct wattage. Well because daw of our traffic condition here in manila. The engine daw realy gets hotter in traffic than in long and continous drive,thus if you often travel along the streatch of edsa on a daily basis mag every 5t km change ka nalang. As for me i will take also the advice of my auto mechanic friend.

Thanks for the advise. I am really leaning towards the 5Tkm oil change. I expect to go back to the CASA for my 5TKm checkup before the month ends so it looks like I will be buying the semi-synthetic oil.

I'll be having my 5T Km check-up tomorrow (my unit's a 3.0V). I was told that if you use the fully synthetic oil, your next oil change will be after 10T Km instead of every 5T Km. I'll have to verify this with my SA, though. I had semi-synthetic oil placed during my 1T Km check-up. I checked the dipstick and the oil still seems pretty clear. Not chocolatey and dark brown like when I changed oil on my old Isuzu Gemini Diesel, several years ago.

Sir, a good sign that your oil is indeed doing its job (which is to clean your engine and maintain a desired temperature band) is through the color of your oil.
It does not necessarily mean that when your oil "looks" clean, its actually cleaning your engine. It might possibly be the opposite. A good oil has powerful detergents that trap the impurities created by the meshing of metal parts in your engine. If your oil does not become dark brown after several thousand kilometers, it might not be doing its job.
Just my 2 cents.

The 3rd row seats cannot fold flat into the floor because the rear part of the frame rails kick up to clear the live rear axle.

Most vehicles with fold-in-the-floor seats have independent rear suspensions.

Noong di pa ako nagpa install, walang kaugong-ugong ang Sorento ko pero noong meron na nyan, lakas ng ugong. Sa diesel with Turbo, di epektib yan maliban lang sa NA diesel engine at gasolina.

Then it's okay. Basta sabi nga ni mazdamazda, as close doon sa combustion chamber. Kung may throttle flapper ka, di rin sya maganda kasi be brake ng throttle flapper yong swirling action na gawa ng device na yan. After ng throttle flapper kung may space pa.

yes... for an air-turbulence device to have some effect, it should be as close to the combustion chamber as possible. otherwise, the "turbulence" created will just be negated by the long intake tube.

BUT, even if you place it near the combustion chamber, the desired effect is still questionable. the timing should be retarded / advanced depending on the airflow created. problem is this will vary per vehicle... and cannot be "enhanced" by a single generic DIY product alone. you need to examine the thermodynamic properties of the air and map it to the ECU for optimum combustion.

btw, almost all modern engines are already bordering on perfect combustion (with the help of the ECU, MAF & O2 sensor). they spent millions of dollars in R&D already... why challenge that?

crusing along slex from shell gas station going to alabang..

final mid at alabang town center..

dati, final mid ko is around 8 to 9.5 km/liter. will keep you guys posted.
