is it? somebody mentioned the 2.5 d4d can run up to 11km/l. It may not have that grunt but definitely it is economical.

Masmahal mag-maintain ng diesel. All in all yung natipid sa mileage, napunta lang sa maintenance as opposed to the gas engine.
IMHO, kung luma na ang diesel engine at pabaya yung may-ari, chances are mas mahal yung magiging maintenance cost mo lalo na pag pina-calibrate mo na, which actually happens when your mileage is around 100k. with my diesel vehicle with a mileage of 90k, all i did was change the oil/oil filter every 5k kms, change the fuel and air filter every 20k kms, timing belt(80k kms). unlike gas engines, may kasama pang sparkplugs.Originally Posted by Bry

whats the extra gastos sa diesel cars? well my mom and sis and even me na mas matipid and diesel but i never nerad na mas mahal and maintenance nang diesel?
the big buck that you have to prepare for a diesel engine is the calibration... but that only happens probably every 80k - 100k mileage.
AFAIK mas-mahal ang mga piyesa ng diesel vs. its gasoline counterpart. (Not sure)
Don't get me wrong, I like diesel engines. Kahit na mas-mahal i-maintain OK lang. Basta wag lang underpowered. I like the 3.0d4d one. Siguro kung intercooled turbo yung 2.5d4d pwede na sana.
i have driven the 2.5 d4d and it does not feel underpowered. I was able to drive it around a bonifacio area. have not had the chance to go on the nlex. imho ok naman ang power nya. It can even outrun 1.3 liter taxis hehehe!
Yes.
It's a good people carrier, but the engine needs more power. Here's the kicker.... The Innova is a lot lighter than the Fortuner.
PS: I have an Innova.
To all the Tsikoteers in this thread:
Your posts are very much appreciated. They are informative, invaluable and really helpful to those who already own a Fortuner, and to those who are patiently waiting in line.
I recently acquired my unit, a 2.5l D4D 4X2 Extreme Black, last Sept 6. I am very much willing to share info on the "growing pains" and "teething problems" of this SUV.
bilog, engine power can be evaluated based on many parameters. Previous posts have crunched already on the numbers (hp, torque, etc), so we fairly have an idea on its performance. However, based on end-user parameters, i.e. driving habits and where it is mostly used, we'll have a different feedback.
Based on my driving habits (gigil sa accelerator at galit sa mabagal sa unahan ko) i'd say the 2.5 D4D is not underpowered, city streets or provincial highway-wise. Haven't tested it beyond 100 kph yet, but tested it with 7 adult-load, and i did not experience any "slow haul" as posted in some threads.
thanks for the info. i'm still waiting for my 2.5 d4d unit, hopefully this month. i'm pretty sure i'd be happy when my unit arrives. i expect it to be much much better than my current mitsu adventure, which i know is beyond comparison with the fortuner 2.5 d4d..Originally Posted by patron

Hi guys, I just need some clarifications with regards to the "No plate, no travel" policy of the LTO, our agent told us it will take about a month for the car plates to arrive, in the meantime I can drive the vehicle for 10 days from the date of the sales invoice? What should one do when stopped by the police? I heard stories that even with complete documentation, the police would still think give you a hard time. Right now I'm waiting for the rustproofing to fully cure, should be ready by Friday. See you guys sa Fortuner owners grand eyeball! (I hope someone will plan one! hehe.)
Vmax, tip ko lang: my agent gave me multiple copies of the permit, so i have a fresh one every week, until i get my plates. Been flagged down once near NAIA but when they saw my documents, it was all a breeze.
Congrats on your new ride!Originally Posted by Vmax
As for the plates, I called up LTO and MMDA when I got my new ride and they told me that the conduction sticker is only good for 7 days. After that, your car can be apprehended. So what I did on the 6th day was to request for an extension of the conduction sticker from LTO. This was done by my brother-in-law who works in Honda and knows someone who can get this done in LTO. Although my Toyota agent offered to do the same for me but to make sure I had this processed through my brother-in-law. The extension was good for another 7 days. So I was confident when I was using my car beyond the 7-day grace period of the conduction sticker. When the extension lapsed, I requested another extension for another 7-days. Before my third extension, my plates arrived.
However, I was not pulled over by any cops during the time I did not have my plates yet. Nakaka-sindak ata ang porma nang Fortuner.
The cost of the extension is P300 pesos. This is a small price to pay compared to the thrill I got driving my Fortuner around with people staring at me. Dark tint naman ako so they can't see me grinning ear-to-ear.
I really enjoy driving my new baby not because of the stares but because of the ride. Iba talaga pag bago at malakas ang hatak. So my piece of advise is ask your Toyota Agent to ask for an extension to the Conduction Sticker in LTO so you can continue driving around town in your new toy.
patron, thanks for the information. 2.5d4d is enough for me since i would be using it as family hauler.
so if youre after with totota's D4d then better buy nalang innova or Hilux. the same lang ba yung price hilux 4x4 sa Fortuner 4x2 D4d?
