di naman siguro, it depends sa situation,

kung malalagyan ng tubig asap at di na ulit umilaw, no need for a towing service.

On my way to DLS-CSB awhile ago to get my grades ek-ek (graduate na rin sa wakas!), I chanced upon a vios taxi driver in Caltex Nagtahan so I asked him what's the deal with these Vios taxis and their hoods. He told me that he had been on the receiving end of some sudden "overheating" alarms as of late. He cursed at the warning light contraption that came with the car, saying that it doesn't perform its job as well as the old school analogue temperature gauge.

And then he finished his maintenance "check-up" with a bucketful of tap water. I could see through the transparent reservoir that he is not using either the "red" Toyota coolant or the reknowned "green" Prestone.

Regarding idiot lights the only subcompact that still has the regular temp gauge is the Suzuki Swift, the other already have the idiot lights!

Maybe because red coolant pa ng Toyota gamit nila noon

AFAIK most new cars except the expensive ones don't have the temperature gauge na. Idiot light na lang. Cost-cutting measures siguro.
Pero mabibigla ka nalang dahil umilaw nalang yung idiot light, overheat na without any precautions.

Or baka may colors yung light? Example pag normal temp no lights, pag near "H" na or tumataas yung temp rapidly orange na yung ilaw tapos pag "H" na red na yung ilaw?

anu ba first aid ng overheat?

    stop

    turn-off the engine

    let it cool

    open the radiator cap

pour water (any water kase emergency naman)

    close radiator cap

    try to start the engine

    test and observe

kung ok na lahat, good to go home agad kung may malapit na shop, ipa check up.

    but observe pa din

nope, its only red sir for the vios1.5G.

nag overheat na kase dati yung vios namen, the culprit was, malfunctioning/non-functioning auxiliary fan dahil nalusong sa baha. cost us 8k for the aux fan at the casa.

    ....
    1.) park securely the car
    2.) turn off the AC

Sa mga jeepney's nauso noon and some still has the overhead water reservoir.

Sa mga FX, Adventures and Crosswind na PU's naka-angat din ang hood near the windshield.

Main reason for the overheating is the absence of proper coolant in these PU's, they are using plain tap water. Even large taxi fleets don't use coolants anymore - cost cutting.

And I would agree that it is a road hazard to run the car with pop up hood.
