Any Toyota Previa owners?

Any owners ng Toyota Previa (current model) sa forum? How do you find it? Is it comfortable to maneuver sa city or does it drive like a truck? How's power delivery ng 2.4L engine? Which model did you get? Standard or High Spec? How is it compared sa older Previa?

I'm considering getting one for my family. Originally liked the Mitsu Grandis but mas type ko looks ng Previa with its sliding doors. Only concern ko is whether its worth the price although I know that its also expensive overseas so I guess ganun talga pricing nya.

Ano kaya ok na alternatives?

I'm a Previa fan myself (R50-R55 model)

My dad and I went and had a test drive sa Toyota Makati Bel-Air with him on the wheel of course. Here's what I can say:

-The ride is swift (first characteristic of a "ninja"). The revised 2AZ-FE engine (that replaces the older 2.4 engine) gives you up to 170hp of power with no sacrifice on torque AT ALL (compared to the older engine). We tested it on a stretch and decided to step hard sending it from 20 kmh to 80 kmh real quick. Definitely has enough power to overtake a similar Mitsubishi Grandis (despite the Toyota being heavier). Heck, there was one forumer in motioncars that said that the Previa at 170 km/h overtook him real fast on Skyway. It proves that it is capable when you're ready to push it hard.
-The car is silent (second characteristic of a "ninja"). As expected from a Corolla Altis (when it was launched in 2003), Toyota has done it again in this Previa. It's as quiet (if not even more silent) than a Corolla. But the best part about it is it has NO VIBRATION (unlike the danged Isuzu Crosswind Diesel that we have)
-Lots of tech gadgets. The Smart Key System, start/stop push button, manumatic transmission for the "slushbox" (instead of archaic P-R-N-D-2-L setup), power doors and power tailgate, four-corner SONAR sensors (this is one of my faves) among numerous other features
-First vehicle in the country to have the Plasmacluster Air Filtration system. A standard feature that comes with the dual-zone A/C system (triple-zone A/C for some markets), this allows for two modes : Ion and Clean. This leads to cleaner air within the vehicle by eliminating dust pollen, harmful allergens and other dirt and grime and discharges ions to keep it clean after elimating the bacteria. This is a true favorite feature of mine.
-Exterior design is lovely. I love it in all angles.
-LED tail lamps for the rear and HID Xenon headlamps with AFS on/off function for the front bring out the best in safety.
-combined with dual airbags, ABS w/EBD as standard and seatbelts for all occupants, this van offers high protection to each and everyone in the car.

To sum it all up, I definitely enjoyed the ride.

For 2.2 million, it defenitely screams for a higher price. I'd defeinitely take this over the Grandis in a heartbeat. Surprisingly, I've seen more Toyota Previa units (new one) over the Grandis with a ratio of 20:8 favoring the Toyota. Of course you could wait for the 3.5 V6 version nito (just arrived in Taiwan last month) which comes with 6-speed. Pero if you're budget isn't enough for a V6 and/or can't wait that long for it to arrive, then the 2.4 version will really suffice .

I do recommend that you get one. And when you do, I'll be glad to join as the second Previa owner (R50-R55) here at tsikot. Kaso nga lang, parang kulang pa sa akin yung version na ibinebenta dito. Kaya for my graduation car, my family and I are going to apply for a visa to Japan and visit the Fujimatsu factory (where they make these vehicles). I'm gonna make my special intent order.

What does it include na wala sa version natin:

-2.2 liter D-4D 180 commonrail diesel engine (170hp with 400nm of torque)
-Electronic CVT with 8-speed manual mode (Toyota's top-of-the-line "slushbox")
-AWD (either based on Lexus IS 230 AWD or by electric motor)
-one-touch folding rear seats (for third row)
-TV screen for rear passengers
-the complete VDIM safety package (ie. ABS, EBD, BA, S-VSC, TRC, ETC......)
-Twin moonroof (like in the Japan and Taiwan variants)
-11 airbags (instead of the dual airbags sold here)
-11 speakers (instead of the standard issue 6 speakers for overseas models)
-Electronic touch screen monitor sa loob ng 2-DIN slot sa center dash.
-Intelligent Parking Assist (ala all-new Lexus LS)
-Piano black dash interior (parang sa Estima Aeras variant for JDM market)
-100% All black seats (leather or cloth may not matter)
-Multi-info display (would have to check though kasi baka Japanese-text only)
-controls for the right side of the steering (aside from the audio controls)

Guess that's about it. Should probably cost 3-4 million in the end.

That's why I have to work hard for it. I'm training my "mind" to envision my hate for our Toyota Innova and channel it into hard work so that I can become an honor student next year.

Once I've gotten academic honors, then I can finally get my Previa (visit to the factory) and join you as the second Toyota Previa owner. :D

I just hope though that there would be other tsikoteers aside from us (who have lots of cash to burn) that would consider buying the New Previa para we can have a Previa meet sometime next year

Visited a Toyota dealer and got a chance to look around the Previa. Wow, the high spec version sure is nice. I especially like the various ways the seats can be arranged and the car was more spacious than I expected. Now if only Toyota priced it a little bit less.

Also checked the Grandis and it sure was leagues far away from the Previa sorry to say. I even thought the Innova was more spacious and had better quality interiors.

By the way, Blackraven, why not import from Taiwan for the Previa you like nalang since they have better equipped version over there?

And there are certain things that I don't want (beige/wood interior, stalk-type cruise control, etc.). Plus, I'm not aiming for a 2GR-FE engine (3.5 V6) but I'm going for the 2.2 D-4D engine (2AD-FHV)

It would be truly an added expense but I would go for the special intent order.

Hehehe, yes, if it was only priced a bit lower, I wouldn't be thinking so hard whether to get one.

But I guess that would be impossible because when I compare the Previa's pricing to neighboring HK, Taiwan, and Australia, there's really a premium over other Toyota models. Our Previa here(esp. in standard version) is actually priced just right compared to say the new RAV4 which is too high.

siguro the only thing that will be hard would be regarding the AWD (All-Wheel-Drive) system that I want to implement.

Sa Estima Hybrid, the AWD is electric (wherein two seperate motors respectively provide power to the front and rear wheels). Eto din ata yung ginamit sa Lexus LS 600 Hybrid na ultra-luxury sedan. Problema nga lang is hindi pa sigurado if it would work with a D-4D 180 engine. Remember that the Estima Hybrid uses a 2AZ-FXE engine (which is 2AZ-FE + electric motor). I'll just have to see next year if this could be done.

Pero kung hindi kaya, there's one last option and that is standard AWD. Parang sa Lexus IS 250 AWD. Just standard AWD.

No FWD or conventional 4WD for me :P

Aside from that, I'm ordering the one na may navigation touch-screen + IPA. I just hope that's possible (but assuming that Lexus has English text for Menus systems, shouldn't be too hard). Bukod doon,
there is the black interior dash trim pero I don't think that's hard to implement.

I think that's it. I do admit that it will be a challenge to implement all of these.

I'll just try my best to request for as many of the said features as I can.

There is one feature though that I'm worried about.



You see that small screen in the middle of the speedometer? That's what you call an MID (multi-info display).

I want to implement that in the Previa that I'll be getting next year. But there is one problem. Look at it closely and you will notice that the thing is too small. So small that it might not be able to fit more than 6 alphanumeric characters.

Heck, if the picture of the car on the left side of the display takes up that portion in such small space, then at most, only FOUR-FIVE alphanumeric characters can fit. So, instead of saying "DRIVER DOOR OPEN" it would just say DOOR(S) OPEN. Of course, it may not be a problem for some pero kung kinumpara mo ito sa MID ng bagong Camry, that screen sa Estima/Previa is PUNY

This is why I have to check with the factory guys at Fujimatsu to see if this feature can be implemented on my unit next year.

Did you call that Toyota office to accomodate your request? I have no idea Toyota (or any other brand) can do this for an end user. From my experience, a dealer handles an end user's request especially for customized options.

The reason why (if ever there is a chance) I'd rather go to the vehicle factory mismo instead of asking customized options from a dealer is really simple: Sales people can be STUPID.

I don't want ignorant sales people to take my order kasi baka they may do something unintelligent. Halimbawa, if I say to them na I want AFS (para sa stock HID Xenon headlamps) as a feature for my car, baka isipin nila na para aircon iyon kasi baka akala nila: AFS= Automatic Freezing System If I request for 11 speakers + 11 airbag option (instead of standard 6 speakers + 2 airbags) baka di rin nila isama. If I request for VDIM, baka hindi rin nila alam.

Tapos, kung nagkamali sa specs, it becomes worthless. You'd have to send it back sa planta sa Japan just to add these specs again. That's why it's better to go there in person. Para you can see that the features that you want to put are in there and that you can see the processes as your car is being manufactured.

Also, since there are some parts that may involve requests/advice from the plant's technical staff, it's indeed important for me to be in person. This also avoids any mistakes/errors that can be committed.
