Today Toyota thailand is offering these updated Vios with new engine 1.5 2NR-FBE and CVT transmission. Bot sure if these are to compete against the Mazda2 in their thai Eco Car Phase 2 program.

More importantly it directly competes now against the 1.5 CVT Honda City.

Not sure if our local toyota factory will assemble these soon enough.

Out goes the familiar 1NZ-FE VVT-i mill, replaced by a flex-fuel 2NR-FBE 1.5 litre Dual VVT-i engine capable of running on E85 biofuel – expect other markets to receive the facelifted Avanza‘s regular petrol-powered 2NR-FE instead, also fitted with Dual VVT-i.
Almost great news, but TMPI only gets to sell a very small number 1.5 variant units in our country at least.

Locally, the 1.3 variant remains to be the single biggest contributor to the Vios sales figures. Now the problem is, Toyota did not announce any new 1.3li, so the 2NZFE continues to soldiers on.

The 1.3 will also get an update.

Interesting! Hopefully this won't just be Exclusive to Thailand.

Its a cvt derived from the prius cvt. Not many recalls from that prius cvt. I would assume its a sturdy cvt.

Dual VVT won't do much in city FC but that CVT will probably help. I wonder why they didn't use the CVT with the Avanza given that these two will finally have the same engine.

Next few month according to another thread.

According to thai posts 23.3km/l...not sure if that was the correct translation. But if it meets 23.3km/l it meets thai eco car phase2 requirements.

Other cars that meet eco car phase 2:

    Mazda2 1.5 Skyactiv
    Mirage/G4 1.2L CVT

That would be great. The current 1.5 AT barely hits 20 km/l under the best of conditions.

    Heres the first english review...

I wonder if we will get the same engine code..

Fuel consumption: almost like the Honda city 1.5 CVT
