Any recent news or experience with this TOYOTA problem? It's a problem in the US until a few years ago on some of the popular toyota engines (as claimed by some owners).

the Toyota sludge problem is real - don't just dismiss it as a maintenance-related problem... just google "toyota sludge" and you'll see what I am talking about.
there was a Rav4 owner here who posted about this problem a year or so ago. this resulted to premature engine failure and a brand new 1AZ-FE engine costs around P500K. last news that I've heard is that he was able to get a compromise / settlement from Toyota.
anyone tsikoteer na nagkaroon na ng ganitong problem? 2 toyota na kasi ang naging oto at di ko naman sya naging problem and wala pa kong personal na kilala na naka-toyotang meron ganitong problem.
tnx
AFAIK, the sludge problem is mostly Toyota's fault. They introduced a very long service interval in the US (lampas 10k km), which didn't take into account differences in usage due to traffic. If you're changing at very long intervals based on MILEAGE and not duration of use, you could be subjecting your engine to thousands of kilometers worth of wear in traffic and still not be going in for a change. (That's why Honda's 10k changes are EITHER 10k km or 6 months... just to be sure).
It would be interesting to know if any local Altises have experienced this problem, but I think our change interval is shorter because of local conditions. Anyone know?
Ang pagbalik ng comeback...
my friend owns a couple of Altis, so far there is no problem with oil sludge (every 5T Kms ang change oil), but i had some suspension and other minor defects like water in the headlights. I guess its more related to the longer service interval... or mismanagement of the dealership.
Some Toyota engines daw esp. sa US developed gelling and sludge deposits sa engine internal parts like bearings and orifices preventing the smooth movement of mechanical parts and flow of the oil. Thus - engine trouble, as in big trouble heheOriginally Posted by mackvil
I'm tryin gto keep track on this as I also have a Toyota, mahirap na hehe
Given that most drivers these days consider their car an appliance rather than a reliable friend that needs some TLC from time to time--the way POPULAR MECHANICS readers think of their vehicles, right?--Toyota apparently decided enough is enough. We received official word from the Japanese giant that the warning "MAINT REQD"--in white letters--is becoming standard equipment on every Toyota product as it's re-engineered for its next generation.
This oil-change billboard will start flashing at you in the instrument cluster every 4500 miles, and then stay on steady every 5000 miles. It'll continue to stay on until the module that controls the reminder is reset--presumably after the oil-and-filter change is actually performed. In addition, a red idiot light with an exclamation point illuminates, just to make the view particularly gross.

^^^ I think that'll work, an sakit sa mata nun = )
But is it really the problem? i mean the long oil change interval? I've read somewhere that this sludge problem developed even when the regular and recommended maintenance was followed.

I think you should ask actual owners to get real facts not just hearsay..... daming toyota owners dito, I'm sure they'll give you their feedback.
Kaya siguro nagkaroon ng ganon baka dapat talagang fuuly synthetic oil ang kailangan gamitin par iwas Sludge

I've owned a revo before and now vios , ang pms every 3 mos or 5k kms kung ano mauna, and fortunately hindi ako nagkaproblem sa makina.
I don't think the type of oil will make much of a difference.
The reason that they are specifying the longer changes in the US is because they're using synthetic. Whether synthetic or mineral, the oil WILL break down under heavy loads and long mileage. Better to go for the shorter interval anyway, just to be sure.
Ang pagbalik ng comeback...
akala kasi nila luxury car eh kaya pinabayaan lng tapos pag may problema reklamo nlang.. hehe.. dami din mga taga U.S. toyota fanatic..
