BOTTOMLINE: IT SHOULD NOT HAPPEN AT ALL whether or not you could use the brake pedals to stop the car if the situation arises... So an obvious defect and thus it needs to be recalled!

January 30th, 2010 01:00 AM #52I agree this shouldn't happen at all. Toyota is toyota.. we buy the car because we know that when you say Toyota its reliable and safe. We don't pay thousands of pesos to a million pesos for a car just to get our selves paying for hospital bills
Kung mga lalaki nag mamaneho chances of accident will be low kasi sanay tayo mag drive ng mabilis tska sensitive tayo sa mga car problems. Pero kung lady driver (gaya ni misis) minsan kasi they dont know what to do in these kind of situation especially kung automatic yung car. Remember the Ateneo student that was ran over by a car in the parking lot? Naapakan yung gas pedal.. sumirit yung car... for guys.. they would normal put the car on neutral or park and then hand break before getting something on the car floor.
Actually parang russian roulette nga tong nangyayari satin. Nagaatayan tayo kung sino mauunang maaksidente. Kakatakot lang kasi we know there is a promblem pero we don't know when its going to happen.

But isn't the design and technology they used standard? If yes, then the location of where it was assembled does not matter at all.
I too was considering an Avanza, but after this news and the post above. I won't push through with my plan. Just to be on the safe side. I don't want any regrets.
Thank you for answering my question. For something that important, only a few responded to that thread.

Here comes Europe!
BRUSSELS —
The recalls by Toyota Motor Corp over faulty gas pedals spilled over to Europe on Friday with its European arm announcing a voluntary recall of up to 1.8 million units in the region. Subject to the latest recall, covering cars sold in Russia, Turkey and Israel as well as Europe, are eight models including the Yaris, the Japanese carmaker’s best-selling car in Europe, Toyota Motor Europe said. The Yaris cars to be recalled were manufactured between November 2005 and September 2009.
The seven other models being recalled for free repairs are the AYGO made between February 2005 and August 2009, iQ made between November 2008 and November 2009, Auris made between October 2006 and January Jan 2010, Corolla made between October 2006 and December 2009, Verso made between February 2009 and January 2010, Avensis made between November 2008 and December 2009 and the RAV4 made between November 2005 and November 2009.

January 30th, 2010 10:34 AM #55Mine is the altis 09 so far ala pa naman signs. I was also planning to get another Toyota para kay misis pero medyo delikado pa lalo na pag in denial ang casa natin sa problem. I will be switching to another car brand nalang. I don't want to take my chances on Toyota at the moment. Besides hindi Lang naman sila ang may good quality vehicle.

January 30th, 2010 11:38 AM #56Just learned about this problem while watching NBC news this morning and felt worried because I think I'm experiencing the problem. What's happening is sometimes my Corolla Altis' gas pedal is hard to depress and I think this is part of the problem as described in http://pressroom.toyota.com/pr/tms/t...al-152196.aspx. I don't want the worst case to happen. My car is a bit old so I think my gas pedal is just worn out. Is it best to have a Toyota casa check my car or just any auto shop would do?

Toyota may have also set the tone for other manufacturers to issue their own recalls. Kimbaga, isabay na rin yung issue.
OT but somewhat related:
I just heard from CNN that Honda will also be having a recall of Honda Fits/Jazz sold overseas (about 64k units). This is due to concerns about faulty electronics inside the engine bay which tend to overheat/catch fire whenever it comes into contact with snow or water. It was reported that one person in south Africa died due to this incident.
But it's a good thing that they're not covering up their mistakes.

Right. Unlike Mitsubishi back in early 2000's they covered up everything on their faulty suspension. One only needs to look at how Mitsubishi fell from near the top of the automotive chain to near bottom status now. When there are problems, admit it!
