MARKET leader Toyota has decided to leave for now the crowded 2.0-liter car market and, instead, move up the top-line Camry to the 2.4-and the 3.0-liter segment.

Toyota will launch today the new, three-liter, V6 engine Camry for P1.68 million, after Nissan Cefiro last week introduced the market's first three-liter model for P1.45 million.

Like the new Cefiro, the bigger Camry also has a power rear sunshade, but with the bonus that its all-leather rear seats, not only the front, have power recline.

The two 2.4-liter Camry versions are priced at P1.48 million and P1.295 million. In contrast, the two 2.0-liter versions, which have now been phased out, carried price tags of P1.34 million and P1.23 million.

With Toyota's 2.0-liter segment void, it is likely that the Toyota Corolla Altis, whose current top range is powered by a 1.8-liter, will likely be revved up with a 2.0-liter version, just like what Honda did with its Civic lineup.

Camry is currently the local top-seller in its class with a 40-percent market share, and the market leader in Taiwan and Thailand as well.

HID lamps and bigger fog lamps!

LED tail lamps (the US version still looks better IMHO):

darating kaya ang time na mawala na mga 1.6L at puro 2.0L na lang? sinimulan dati ng galant / corona but then the tax structure wasn't right... now that naayos na... almost lahat eh naglalabas na ng 2.0L na compact sedan...

i don't think that they would phase out the 1.6L sedans... there would still be a market for that as not everyone can afford & maintain a 2.0L car
