Out of curiosity guys, and I know this should probably be in the Car Comparisons forum, but since I want your biased (hehehe!) opinions having owned a Prado, I'll post it here.
Would you sell your 10 year old turbo diesel Prado to buy a Subaru Forester (XT for P1.9M or Premium for P1.6M)?
The wife is targeting ours because of its age and that cracked up dash. While I agree it's relatively old and in need of more repair and maintenance also relatively, I think it's aging quite well. Save for that dash, although that's perhaps a less than P20K fix.
been contemplating to sell mine and have a hilux g AT, but always a change of thought whenever i use this truck on weekends with the feeling of security and enjoyment it gives even withs its age, hehehe
owned other suvs before pero iba itong truck na ito! kahit na 10 yrs old na cya
Having owned the LC120 before and the current Forester Turbo now, here are my 2 cents:
1. Refinement - Subaru hands down. Its quiet (really quiet), got a nice supple suspension, great handling and of course the power.
2. Power- the wave of torque and turbo power is miles apart. The prado loses puff easily past 120. The subaru will go till the limiter and pull hard.
3. Toys - Subaru , power everything, moonroof that's panoramic, LCD screens galore, paddle shifters, etc
4. The one thing the Prado wins on is offroading - but i never used it even once to go offroad. Not sure where your roads take you. But even then, i don't think this would be enough to tip the scales in its favor. The comfort, driveability, toys etc of the Subaru just blow it away.
5. Space - the 3rd row of the Prado is a CRAMPED and the luggage space when that 3rd row is being used is even more of a joke. Seriously, putting people in that 3rd row is torture.
I would get the FXT after having enjoyed your Prado for 10yrs already. Subaru's are really great cars. It may not have the off-road prowess of the Prado but it is AWD . That should be enough for most situations you will face. It is much safer with all the Airbags and electronic nannies and it is ten years newer. Time to upgrade![]()

Leder Interia offered me two options. 1st option was to scrape the old dash and put a fiberglass coating on top then put on a leatherette cover to simulate the old textured dashboard finish. downside of this is that there will be stitching on the dash which i don't like. 2nd option was just to put a fiberglass coating on top and simulate the finish of the original dash. I chose the latter.
1st option will cost you 13.5K and the 2nd 16k. but I was able to haggle it down to 13.5k.
Opinion on the craftmanship:
well trust me its far from the original however because of the eyesore I experience everyday when riding in my car, i am satisfied enough that there are no more cracks in my dash. Imagine my agony of owning a LC Prado with a cracked dashboard? of course we LC owners have a sense of pride/fulfillment of having a great car right? And the best thing would be I would not be needing to explain to people who ride in my car the factory defect dash problem anymore.
Hehehe! No need to imagine the agony bro, I’m living it as well. Nice car, lousy dashboard. What a shame. Buti na lang mahilig ako sa dark tint. ;-)
Seatmate also offers the stitching alternative. Ang choices would be synthetic or real leather. But in their case, mga P18K ata and you have to leave your car with them for about a week.
Pardon the many questions coming up next: Would you have the contact of Leder Interia? Where are they located? Pwede bang credit card ang bayad?
How long have you had your repaired dash? Since it’s fiberglass, is it feeling more like hard plastic in Innovas/Fortuners? I can’t tell the difference between OEM and fiberglass based on the pix (my eyesight is beginning to take a hit with all this computer usage), but if this is the more durable alternative, Dibale nang plastic ang feel…
Thanks in advance.
No need to set an appointment but it would'nt hurt though. just look for ate vicky, she's the one who gave me the discount. Didnt ask if they accept credit. Address and location can be found at http://www.lederinteria.com/
I left my dash there last August 29 and got it just last saturday. THe bum thing is that its almost a week now but there is still this toxic smell. Jun (the repair guy) told me that the smell will run out in a week or two.
Yes sir its like hard plastic very similar with the fortuner. if you want to take a look at the actual finish product i can show you mine. Every friday I go to alabang coming from bulacan so we could meet up somewhere along the way if you want....
Uy, that sounds like a plan. I'll send you a PM so we can coordinate, assuming you're ok with the location
2 questions again, though. (Sorry, I'm piling it on.)
- Any safety issues with driving with the bare dash?
- Why is the All fiberglass option cheaper than the fiberglass + leather wrap option? Would it be due to the fiberglass finish being more tricky to perfect?
Thanks!
Hi everyone, I'm new here. Anybody changed their stock halogen bulbs to higher rating h4 bulbs? If so, which brand of bulbs did you install? Not looking to change to HID.
I'm back!
Mga P1m++ pa daw ang LC120. Nice!
Had tried Osram all weather bulbs (100/80w), but that was ages ago. Went on different sets of HIDs over 11 years. Pinakasulit yung naka-projector.
Any news on the all new prado? Planning on acquiring one. Sayang nmn if its gonna be an outgoing model
Hey guys! Musta na? Your 120s still with you?

A good brother opted for this 30th Anniversary no-electronics inline6 over the v8. A nonDiva collectible.[emoji108]
