One more thing, what type of land cruiser is good on the budget conscious person, regarding fuel consumption and maintenance?

LC80 madaming engine. Local engine ng LC80 was a 4.2 inline six (tama ba mga gurus?) which made around 150 bhp.

Land Cruiser and budget conscious? Parang oxymoron iyan. You are buying a genuinely capable off-road vehicle which is now considered legendary so don't expect it to be cheap.

Subics are OK if you know how to fix them (hindi yung 'I have a trusted mechanic na magaling mag-ayos').

Subic LC80s usually has 1HDT engine, thats a 4.2ltr 6 cyclinder diesel, runs on an average of 8kms/liter. very torquey.

its hard to generalize if subic LCs are good or not. tiyempuhan din and dapat may kasama kang marunong sa LC. after buying, expect to spend more money/time for possible repairs. don't expect it to be like a brandnew.

are you from pampanga? i am.

In paper this is better than the 2LTE plus it has more torque and power. It is reputed to have less problems. Of course you have to check the condition of the engine itself. Most units available here with a 1KZTE engines are KJ78 4 door prados. Of course the 1KZTEs are still the engines being used by the LC120 prados being sold locally.

Tama ba yon?

local lc80s are equipped with 1 hd t diesel engines 4200 liter 6 cylinders in line with a 165hp and 365 torque fuel consumption 6 to 7 km per liter. market price is still up to a million to 1.5mil depending on the condition. ride is very solid and stable.

wow! Thats a planet pulling 365 torque figure!!!! I never imagined it to be like that. I got a chance to drive my old man's lc80. He got it 1.7M 1997 vx local version just last year. Ride is bumpy but engine is tourquey-licious!!! No problem overtaking cars. Hitting the hiways is easy. Ride height is tremendous! I feel like I could run over cars. I took a pic one time... in front of me was a vios. I could hardly see him. The engine is very quiet from the inside - more quiet than the d-max. I love the engine on this bad boy it has a very low deep growl. It feels like a tank - did I mention that I feel like I could run over any car on the road? Oh, it has a HUGE gas tank. I had to return it on a full tank, cost me 2000+

A new Toyota Land Cruiser 70 with a 4.5L V8 turbo diesel was just announced for the Australian market. It will go on sale at the end of March.

Anyone here willing to bet that the new Tundra, Sequoia, (our) Land Cruiser, and the Lexus siblings won't also see this engine shortly? I say it will happen about the same time that Ford and Dodge introduce their all-new 1/2-ton diesels.

Iyan na ata ang first major change since the model's introduction back in the days when we were still in diapers.

The Aussies and Arabs swear by that truck.

    Hello guys,

4x4 wheeling have always interested me. I just bought a 70 series
land cruiser. I never have bought any second hand vehicle before, so what should I check ?
Basically the condition of the unit that I bought seems okay. The aircon works fine, the engine seems to be in good condition ( sounds okay), everything seems to be in order, But I want to make it look better as days go by. Preferably make it look and feel like a brand new unit.
There are so many thing that I want to replace, they are not defective but as I said, I want it to look like brand new. The tail lights look old, the hood cover( the one inside the engine which protects the metal) looks old, the upholstory looks old. I want to replace the steering wheel with an original
left hand drive steering wheel. I don't like the fact that the placement of the turn signal lights and the headlamps are opposite where they should be. I want to install an exhaust that goes up in the roof. etc..

Where can I buy original or good quality Japan substitute parts for the Land cruiser?

ps. The unit is already lifted with 32" mountain tires, a winch and a snorkel.
If it gets defective, where will I have it serviced. Medyo wala kasi akong alam sa sasakyan except to drive it. All my vehicles are relatively new with all of them less than 3 years old. Pag may problem kasi I just ask the driver to bring it to the CASA but in this case, I just learned today that Casa's don't accept subic land cruisers. I just decided to buy it spur of the moment. I saw it 4 sale and within 12 hours I bought it. I love the looks of a 70 series land cruiser. I even like it better, compared to the brand new units right now.

Before I bought it, I ask a mechanic to accompany me to check the conversion kits and he was impress because, It was done properly and they use original conversion kit. Actually the previous owner seems to be very diligent in maintaining the unit. But he has to sell because he is migrating.

Sir, ask ko lang... Bakit bumili na kayo? Sana nagtanong muna kayo... Baka lemon yan. Sana hindi pero dapat talaga hunt muna ng mga LC70's on the 2nd hand market. Baka kasi maraming problema yung nakuha mo. There are more things to check than the conversion. And afaik, mahirap ata maghanap ng parts nyan.

You could have save a lot of money.

Just my 0.02 cents at di ako galit.

    Yung differentials okay ba? Transmission?

    Hello Drey,

Nagandahan ako, kasi 3 door siya. Exactly what I want.
Di ko alam if there is a problem with the differentials or transmission, I don't really know much about vehicles except to drive one. Honestly I would'nt know a bad engine/transmission/differentials even if I see one.Kaya gusto kong patingnan sa mekaniko or reliable shop that can evaluate the things that I need, to bring the vehicle to tiptop condition. The previous owner seems to be somebody who loves his LC and mukhang alaga naman.

    Thanks for the advice.

Wala akong alam masyado sa car maintenance. Usually kasi, ito ang weak links ng mga LC's from what I've read sa mga Australian Forums.

Btw, the 3 door really looks cool! I saw one near our village, a yellow LC70 with winch, snorkel, and safari bumper with a hot chick driving. All I can do is look at it! Damn nice!

    Hello fellow tsikoteers,

Do you have any comment on a turbo intercooler for a diesel engine?
Is the performance difference noticeable? Can I just bolt on an intercooler
and place a hood scoop and everything will be fine? Wala bang papalitan sa
loob ng makina? or a reprogramming of the ECU?

I have a LJ72 with a 2LTE engine pero wala siyang intercooler. I want to upgrade it by adding an intercooler. Need your opinions and experience. For
those who have done it, did you notice a performance difference?
Saan ba nakakabili ng either secondhand or brandnew intercoolers?

I check the intercooler of my fortuner 3.0L DID and medyo mahirap siyang iadapt doon sa 2LTE engine. Any other suggestions? TIA
