Wow sobrang taas nyan. Mahal pa toll fee kaysa sa gas.
More of I do a lot of highway driving. The Vios has a really big disparity between city and highway driving. The lack of gears plus heavy body make it thirsty in low speed traffic, but the good aero and the small displacement makes it efficient on the highway as long as you maintain a constant speed.
Most likely the Altis will do better in the city, but I doubt it could break 20 km/L on the highway. Still waiting for my unit to become available, might spill over to June though :/
2014 Vios 1.3E AT
21.26 km/L
254 km, 11.947L
Pure highway driving (except for about 5km of city driving inside Dinalupihan town proper). NLEX-SCTEX round trip, stuck to 80 kph the whole time, with 2 on board.
This is a more accurate result than my previous run because I traveled further and used more fuel (reducing the impact of variability during fill-ups). I also made sure to fill up in the same station and same pump.

From a stop, I step on the accelerator with moderate pressure to speed up the shifting until the highest gear (4th gear in my case), but not too much pressure - just enough to get it to shift at 2000-2500 rpm.
Once I'm in my cruising speed of around 80 kph, I put as little pressure as possible on the accelerator. Think of it as squeezing a shampoo bottle as lightly as you can so that you only use a minimal amount of shampoo. I find that this is better than stepping on the gas hard, then coasting, then stepping hard again.
On uphills, I try to maintain the same minimal pressure, but there are times that the speed drops to 60 kph which isn't very efficient anymore, so I apply a bit more pressure even if it means I'll have to rev a bit more. This is still more efficient than crawling at a low speed. On downhills, I still apply the same minimal pedal pressure as on a flat road, which means the car goes faster than 80 kph. I use that momentum so that I carry speed when I traverse the next uphill.
When approaching toll booths, I coast from as far as 500-750m away so that by the time I reach the queue, I'm only doing 40-60 kph so I minimized my braking and hence my fuel use.
Just a reminder though, it's a really, really boring drive to stay at 80 kph even if the road is completely empty. Everyone else will just overtake you. I find this kind of driving impractical since it makes my 2 hour trip a 3 hour trip, all for a few pesos of savings. I just do it to see how efficient my car can go, but it definitely isn't my kind of driving.
Pano ba tamang teknik... speed up to 80 then bitaw wait mag 75 then tapak ulit pabalik 80 or steady sa pedal?
^^thanks.
I always thought that pitik pitik was better than a la cruise control
Cruise Control is different - it adjusts throttle input to maintain speed. For example, if you maintain the same pedal pressure to stay at 80 on a flat road, you will inevitably slow down to about 60-70 on an uphill. With cruise control, it will increase throttle input to maintain 80 kph on an uphill.
Pulsing the accelerator works well in light city traffic though. Just give enough throttle to make it to the next bottleneck or stoplight intersection, then rinse and repeat for every cycle of clear and clogged roads.

Just got back from bicol trip. I got 15.3 km/L on the midnight run on the way there with 4 adults and 1 kid. Pero on the way back it went down to 10.6 km/ L, factors are the extra weight going home. 1 adult snd 2 sacks of rice , ++ etc, and the slow down in the quezon area in the afternoon. Also using avanza 1.3. Normal city driving is only 8.5 km/l around qc.

Lowest rpm does not mean lowest consumption.
The fact that you will have to repeatedly prod the pedal will consume more fuel as opposed to a steady input.
Bakit ganito ang FC na nacacalculate ng aCar app? Sa mga gumagamit nito, Anong need ko baguhin to reflect the correct FC? Thanks
As with any FC app:
1. Record your beginning odometer reading
2. Record your first fillup (doesn't really matter yet how many L since it's not counted)
3. Drive around several hundred km
4. Fill up again - take note in the app your current odometer reading, as well as how many liters you filled up. You will then get your FC computation.
Sample:
1. Full tank on June 1 (1000 km odo reading, 25L consumed)
2. Drive around 500 km
3. Full tank again on June 10 (1500 km odo reading, 40L consumed)
Your computed FC will be 12.5 km/L.
