what i heard is that they are choosing between the Avanza, Echo 5dr (again) and the Scion. MOst likely the Avanza will make it here kasi its very cheap. The Avanza is also featured in the AutoCar nov issue.

I like the Scion kaya lang if its going to be imported CBU from Japan, it will be expensive, same with the Echo if they will relaunch it here.

As for the engine, onga! 1.3 is quite weak. Pasakayin mo ba naman sila happy_gilmore, chieffy, ungas, glennster, pajerokid, baiskee, 323f, at ghosthunter? nyahahhaa!

The Avanza is an entirely new model and was developed specifically for the ASEAN region, according to its Chief Engineer, Kaoru Hosokawa. There is no equivalent model sold outside ASEAN although an identical version is also sold with a Daihatsu badge in Indonesia (Daihatsu is part of the Toyota Group).Power for the Avanza comes from a 1.3-litre engine with the designation ‘K3-VE’ and if you know engines, you will know that this code is the same as the Perodua Kembara DVVT’s engine. Sharing engines is one way to lower costs but for the Avanza, the engine management program has been altered to provide different characteristics more suited for a MPV. The Avanza’s engine produces 89 ps and 120 Nm of torque, values which are higher than the Kembara’s engine. However, what is more significant is that the engine has VVT-i – variable valve timing with intelligence – which boosts output to a level comparable to conventional 1.5-litre engines. VVT-i also broadens the powerband, providing a greater degree of flexibility and also improves fuel efficiency.

That has got to be one of the cheapest looking interior to come from Toyota in recent history.

Though the vehicle itself should make for a practical runabout.

3 weeks ago na sa KL Malaysia ko, very popular yan avanza dun. read on their newspaper dami pa daw nila order. pero di ko alam na 1.3 Li lang 'to. hindi ba competition nito yun' honda stream?

Looks likely for local distribution... not sure I like it... mas maganda pa ang matrix! (pero less seats, at di toyota)...

I seriously doubt the Scion brand will come here... Toyota already has a strong market position, and the Scion product lines will most likely compete for the same market as local Toyotas...

isn't this just a cheap / dumbed version of the innova? the innova looks great but this just looks like a funky AUV...

the interior is just BORING and outdated. the only saving grace is the headlamps, in which IMO was borrowed from the previa.

Nakita kuna yung Avanza pero hindi 1.3Li at tsaka 7 seater. 1.6Li yung nakita ko at tsaka 5 seaters.

Price mura lang, kasing presyo lang ng local sedan sa Malaysia (Wira & Gen2 of Proton). Palagay ko mura ito pag dumating sa atin cause malaki mag tax ang Malaysia pag imported ang sasakyan.

Looks, okay naman sa harap at likod. Yung nga lang sa gilid bare talaga, dapat nilagyan nila ng cladding at tsaka two tone yung kulay (para bang MPV ng renault). Sa murang halaga, medyo cheap rin ang dating sa loob. Pero spacious yung cargo bay at tsaka yung leg room okay na okay.

Sa liit ng makina kailangan light plastics to cover the power/weight difference. :D

steering wheel is from the Vios. Budget car! Anyway, Avanza is the ASEAN answer for the Jazz IMO. Kasi kung Scion yan, mahal pero its the true counter part of the Jazz. Toyota thought of a budget car na can seat 7 pero cheap. Most likely, it will be priced lower than the Jazz. Design of this vehicle for me is average. Lets wait and see. Pero like most people say here, click yan kasi mura.
