April 25th, 2009 04:50 PM #1good day po sirs and maams.. im a newbie driver po and i just want to know more about the overdrive function sa altis.
kasi nabasa ko po sa manual na pag on siya e nasa fourth gear siya kaya mas matipid sa fuel consumption and pag off e nasa third gear daw.. kaya i assume na yun ang rison kung bakit default sa shift ang "on"..
anyway, nalilito lang po ako kasi sinearch ko po sa internet yun and i learned na ginagamit lang po ung overdrive pag 70kph and above na speed mo..
ano po ba talaga?
thanks for sa mga reply niyo...

Normally leave the overdrive on. may indicator sa dash kung naka off.
Kapag medyo mabilis na ang takbo mo tapos gusto mo na ma force mag down shift from 4th to 3rd, you can turn the OD off para lumakas ang power. Typically used for overtaking.
Normally just leave it on. also normally, just place it in "D".

kung mild lang ang terrain, there is no need to turn it off.
by default, naka set ang A/T for fuel economy.
So far sa ZZ ko, hindi pa ako nagkaroon ng need to turn OD off. papanik sa parking buildings, naka "D" lang ako.
ECT is a different subject.
Instead of turning OD off, why not turn on ECT for a little bit of power.Last edited by meledson; April 26th, 2009 at 12:19 PM.

That's actually a good idea... the ECT seems to have more of an effect on the behavior of the car than the OD on/off button.
When I drove my cousin's Altis last year, it felt really, really sluggish... refused to downshift, dragged through the gears... then I noticed ECT was on "ECO" mode... switched it to power mode, and it felt much better.
Ang pagbalik ng comeback...

Most newer cars have smarter A/T's. The PWR ECT mode has been incorporated into the A/T logic by reading the inputs from the MAP sensor, speed sensor, RPM, and throttle position.
So if the driver floors the gas pedal, the A/T would shift down and will delay the shift up until about the end of the engine's power band. You can be in aggressive or economy mode with just the flick of your right foot... no more fumbling for the ECT mode switch.
It seems that OD is still a feature where the A/T logic requires human intervention. Either that or manual sports mode.

April 28th, 2009 04:51 PM #9ive tried to set the O/D off po once na nasa highway ako habang nasa 70kph ako and the change was very noticeable.. parang biglang tumahimik ung engine and naging smooth ung ride. pero significant po ba ung difference sa fuel consumption if laging gamit power mode compare sa eco? mejo matarik po kasi lugar namin and laging "D" lang gamit ko.. ive never tried to use the power mode even once

pagkakaintindi ko lang ah, parang same lang siguro ang functions ng "power" at "hold" functions ng sa pajero.
power mode, mas matagal ang shifting, for use in overtaking at akyatan
hold mode, nakapirmi lang ang position ng gear. most appropriate on highway driving and fast driving.
mam, pag power mode eh talagang mas malakas ang fc mo dahil matagal bago mag shift gear. just in case po mam eh nasa mataas kayo na lugar at paakyat, turn off ang overdrive tapos wag mo lagay sa d, either sa 2, or 1 lang para hindi nagpapalit ang gear.
Choice I would have made as well.
