As long as you don't have any identifying info on your key then you're relatively fine (some people have a habit of placing the plate numbers of their cars on their keys or they don't bother to remove the service tags).

Just use a steering lock on your car as precaution when you park at public places, especially if your frequent that particular mall. That Toyota key is quite a dime a dozen so the person who picked it up (if he has any intent to steal the car in the first place) may not even know what kind of Toyota it belongs to.

Try to erase the lost key on your car
toyota has on board features like add keys and erase keys to the program. Now to know if the program really erase all the lost key you first need to add new key to the program then erase all the existing keys except 1 key [the one your using now], then test.

If parked outside, the better. If he doesn't want to trespass, he can always wait in the morning of any day, follow you for when you may park the car somewhere outside, then steal. Chances of that happening are very remote and far-fetched but strictly technicaly possible.
If you really want that possibility avoided, you can ask the dealer to change the entire immobilizer/anti-theft system, the ignition and all door locks with a set of new keys.

I am worried that someone out there might have picked it up and therefore has the key to our car. We already inquired with the guards office and so far, no one has surrendered the key. What is the best thing to do in this situation. I have inquired with toyota and according to them they cannot change the code of the alarm since this is unique to every toyota vehicle. Thanks.

    hi there mate,
I am a car key specialist in London. You would be surprised how many people lose their car keys. The option that is the best for you in order to prevent somebody from stealing your vehicle is to get a replacement car key. Even though the remote will use the same frequency to open the vehicle, the lost key won't be able to start the engine as the your new key will have a new transponder in it with different code. I think this is the best you can do. Good luck

    Hi There!

I hope someone can help me.
I had to borrow my cousin's old car (manual, walang alarm, very basic) because of coding and sa sobrang pagmamadali ko I lost
the car key. And he told me since he bought it 2nd hand wala daw duplicate. Gosh! am in so much trouble..
