List of Toyota D4D Probems (Choking, Hard Starting, etc.)

This is the configuration of the new style pump.

But to say that this new design has fully resolved the problem remains to be seen as it takes some time to evaluate a product's performance.

I have asked my diesel colleagues in Asia about this new pump. Feedback is that it has not fully corrected the D4D problem; there has been a noticeable improvement though..... less unexpected choking.

My latest email to them dated 2.10.2010....

As agreed last Monday, I am forwarding to you a short list of Toyota owners who may have problems or concern with their D4D engine. Please communicate with them through the Customer Service team of TMP. Let me know when it is best to meet up again for a follow through of our first meeting so we may track our progress. Next week is fine by me, we should have accomplished something by then.

Parang band aid lang iyan kasi di naman nagawa kung ano talaga ang problema. Maari lang na medyo malayo ang gap ng problema..

"the problem with the D4D isn't actually the engine itself, but more on the fuel filtering/delivery. madumi kasi ang diesel fuel natin dito, marami sediments, nagipon ang sediments at bumara sa filter, in turn, hindi umaabot sa engine ang diesel fuel. pinalitan na lahat ng filters sa assembly line, kaya lahat ng releases starting 2006, no problems na."

but why do i hear different noise from the engin before it breaks down..but definitely aside from the fuel pump that has to be changed on the fortuner and its sucking rear suspesion, everything's well and prestigious..

i also have a 2005 diesel innova G. i never had a problem with it till lately. my innova is having problems on start up. you need to accelerate in order for it to start at normal idle speed. maybe you have any suggestion on what to do. does anybody experienced this kind of problem maybe you can share it. we have already changed the fuel filter assembly but still the problem is unsolved. we really need help.

ang phil hino ata sister company ng toyota.

I think Toyota owns Hino. Makes me wonder about Hino engines heheh. If the fuel pump is the problem, I wonder how much replacing the whole system would cost? Can't Toyota offer a better diesel delivery system?

The answer is no bro, avoid the d4d engine as much as possible, sure toyota said they already did something with the new models, but would you gamble with that say 5 years from now when your 3 year/100,000 kms warranty expires? I'd take a look at other crdi suvs if i were you..

Update, balik nanaman sa toyota quezon avenue yung 05 d4d innova G namin because of stalling, dati ang naging problem eh hard starting/choking/stalling at na-solve naman nila yun by changing the fuel filter only.. Ngayon balik nanaman yung stalling niya.. Tsaka hindi na accurate yung fuel gauge..

Check engine stalling,pull down fuel tank,replace fuel filter element clean fuel strainer initialize supply pump-3500,check engine ind. Lit up-600,fuel gage not accurate operated-600.

guy's na experience nyo na bang bigla na lang namatay ang makina ng fortuner D4D with no apparent reason. buti na lang stop kmi nung namatay sya. pina check na rin namin sa dealer pero wala naman nakitang problema... nangyari naman ulit namatay naman yung makina ng fort kagabi.

No abnormalities of any kind before shutdown, actually katatapos lang nung PMS nya a week before nangyari yung incident.

Ung 05 Innova G ko, nag light yung engine symbol, nakalagay sa manual avoid pabilisin takbo and bring to dealer (Toyota C5 Pasig)... ano ba pwede ko kong i- complain sa kanila.. baka paglolokohin ako.. madami i-recommend palitan tapos di rin masolve... sa mga nagka problem na ng ganito paki na lang po... thanks..

Sa amin matagal na yung check engine light na yan, pero sa case naman namin, wala naman difference sa power and performance.. Sa inyo ba may na-notice ka na changes? Siguro more than 8 months na yung check engine light na yan sa 05 Innova G namin, pero as of now, pinasabay na din ipa-check sa toyota quezon avenue ito sabay na din ng engine stalling.. Unfotunately hindi natapos, will check on monday kung ano ang findings nila, will update you na lang bro..
