I currently own a 2011 Fortuner 4x2 with the 2.5L diesel engine and manual transmission. My vision is to swap the drivetrain for a 4x4 and up the engine to the 3.0L diesel, so that the Fortuner is 4x4-3.0L Diesel-Manual Transmission.
From my research, the 3.0L D4D should be a (relatively speaking) straightforward bolt in as it has the same mounting points, but would likely need an upgraded transmission to go with. The 4x4 drivetrain is harder to figure out compatibility. I'm trying to determine how possible this is and what the best avenue for getting there is, such as whether I can just swap the transmission, drivetrain and engine individually or if I could buy a Hilux with the 4x4-3.0L-MT config and just swap the bodies.
Originally, I looked to see if I could just buy/swap for a Fortuner with these specs but as far as I can tell, there weren't any made for/sold in the PH market.
For the record, I'm aware how major of a project this is. I'm aware that this conversion will add a lot of cost, complexity, and time that will likely amount to more than the vehicle is worth. I'm attached to this vehicle specifically and I'm prepared to not see any financial ROI and even sink money into it, as I don't plan on ever selling it.
Additionally, does anyone know if there are any shops in Manila that have experience/specialty performing this kind of conversion?
